Queen Elizabeth Names Prince Charles As Her Legitimate Successor

Prince Charles has been named as Queen Elizabeth legitimate successor.

For 91 years, the Queen of England never actually named her successor leading to fears that she might die before this was made possible.

That’s no longer the case as she has finally endorsed her son, Prince Charles as her successor when she dies.

Queen Elizabeth issued a request to the Commonwealth Heads of Government to name Charles as her successor.

The Queen who turns 92 soon said; “It is my sincere wish that the Commonwealth will continue to offer stability and continuity for future generations and will decide that one day the Prince of Wales should carry on the important work started by my father in 1949,” the Queen said

She added “By continuing to treasure and reinvigorate our associations and activities, I believe we will secure a safer, more prosperous and sustainable world for those who follow us: a world where the Commonwealth’s generosity of spirit can bring its gentle touch of healing and hope to all.”

Prince Charles who is currently 69 had a few words to say as well. He spoke of his long history with the Commonwealth and how it had affected his life.

He said; “For my part, the Commonwealth has been a fundamental feature of my life for as long as I can remember, beginning with my first visit to Malta when I was just 5 years old.

And so, ladies and gentlemen, I pray that this Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting will not only revitalize the bonds between our countries, but will also give the Commonwealth a renewed relevance to all citizens, finding practical solutions to their problems and giving life to their aspirations. By doing so, the Commonwealth can be a cornerstone for the lives of future generations, just as it has been for so many of us.

There were plenty of colourful outfits, with many guests arriving in traditional dress for the dinner in the Palace’s picture gallery.

A 55-year old man Moses Ayemojuba has been arrested for allegedly using a forged Catholic Church bank cheque to defraud an oil company, Nathhole Petroleum Limited to the tune of N8m. It was gathered that the incident happened at Christ the King Catholic Church in Shasha, Lagos where the transaction took place.

It was gathered that the suspect and others at large approached the management of the company to supply the church 30,000 liters of diesel worth the amount about N8m. They promised to pay the money through a bank cheque with serial number 000055 after the company might have supplied the product. Not knowing that it was a scam, the management delivered the product with their truck at the church premises and the suspect issued the cheque on behalf of the church.

However, when the company took the cheque to Ecobank PLC it was discovered that the cheque did not emanate from the church. By then the suspects had sold the diesel and escaped with the money.

The matter was reported to the police, the suspect was trailed and arrested. But by then he had already sold the product and spent the money.

He was charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for the alleged conspiracy, forgery and stealing.

Rachel Siziba said the current relationship she is having is between her and a married man and she sees nothing wrong with it.

“Yes it is true I am dating a married man but I entered into the relationship not to separate him with his wife; he puts his family first and I respect that.

“When he is at home, I don’t call him because I know he will be needing his space and to tell the truth, I have no intentions of leaving him just because he is married.

“He never lied to me when we started dating and I made my decision to be with him a long time ago,” she said.

Though she has had several conflicts with her boyfriend’s wife, Rachel said she is not moved with all the threats that she has been receiving.

“When I started going out with my boyfriend I knew what I was getting myself into and I knew what would come so when his wife started sending me messages shouting at me I wasn’t surprised.

Liberian Ex- Warlord ‘Jungle Jabbah’ Jails For 30 Years In US

A U.S. court has sentenced former Liberian warlord known as “Jungle Jabbah” to 30 years in prison for gaining U.S. asylum by lying about his role in the civil war in his homeland and atrocities he committed, prosecutors said on Friday.

Mohammed Jabbateh, 51, who has lived in East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, since the late 1990s, was found guilty
in October on two counts of fraud in immigration documents and two counts of perjury.

During the height of Liberia’s first civil war from 1992 to 1995, Jabbateh, while serving as commander of a warring group, either personally committed or ordered acts such as rapes, ritual cannibalism, mutilation, murder and the use of child soldiers, according to prosecutors.

An attorney for Jabbateh, Greg Pagano of Philadelphia, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Prosecutors said while applying for asylum in December 1998, Jabbateh was not truthful about his membership in the group known as the United Liberation Movement of Liberia for Democracy (ULIMO), and later ULIMO-K, rebel groups that battled for control of Liberia.

Two dozen witnesses, including 17 Liberian victims, testified in the trial.

According to testimony, in one instance Jabbateh ordered that the heart of a captive be cooked and fed to his fighters. In another, fighters under his command murdered a villager, removed his heart and ordered the town chief’s wife to cook it.

Jabbateh later had the town chief himself murdered and ordered his widow to cook her husband’s heart.

During Jabbateh’s trial Pagano said Jabbateh had been framed by accusers who were desperate to blame anyone they could for atrocities committed during the civil war.

“These are tall tales of enemies settling old scores – not because they had personal experiences with him but because of what group he’s identified with,” Pagano said at the trial, according to a posting on his website.

“There is no greater motive than revenge.”

The case was investigated by special agents of Homeland Security Investigations, an arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Why We can Not defeat APC on our own- PDP

The party admitted that it cannot defeat the APC on its own – It called on all warring members to make up and settle their differences The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has admitted that it cannot defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on its own and said it would need the help and support of other opposition parties to do so.

Leadership reports that Uche Secondus who is the chairman of the party admitted this at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting of the party on Thursday, April 19. He called on other political parties to join the PDP ahead of 2019 so as to be able to remove the APC from office.

He said: “We commend our elder statesmen and other patriotic Nigerians who have spoken up on the urgent need to rid the country of the current bad APC government and enthrone a government that will serve our needs.

All hands must be on deck to achieve the great task of removing this APC government and replacing it with a government that will fulfil the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians.”

Because of this challenge, we have taken it upon ourselves, as the leading opposition party, to broaden our scope, open our doors and allow ideas to flow in for a more robust democratic development.

We, therefore, invite our brothers, sisters, youths and women from other political parties to join us to rescue our country that is in distress, socially, politically, economically and security-wise.

Our consultations have taken us to meet with various interest groups who are willing to do business with us, and I can report to you that it has been very fruitful. We expect in coming days to have a broader political family working dedicatedly to rescue this democracy and our beloved country from the hands of APC. “We can’t do it alone; we need everybody to join us.

We have found ourselves like in a military government which we must wrestle to regain power for the interest of the country. We need broader conversation to open our minds. Let us not shut the door against anybody.”

On the upcoming Ekiti gubernatorial election, Secondus called on all parties to be united.

He said: “We don’t have time again on our hands; we have to take this necessary step between now and May. We have to join hands with our brothers (opposition parties) to wrestle power from this government. All sectors must come together to rescue this nation from APC; that is what we owe this nation as a major opposition party. We cannot do it alone. “

I can tell you (that) the international community is waiting. If we do it right, funding won’t be a problem; the voters won’t be a problem, but we have to remain united and do it right. This is like a military government and we have to rescue our democracy.

Nigerians residents in the U.S. are hardworking and law-abiding, Consul-General of Nigeria at Atlanta, Mr Kayode Laro, has said.

Laro disclosed that the Consulate was proud of the contributions of Nigerians to the U.S. and also to their homeland.

The Consulate was established in 1998 to strengthen the long existing relations between Nigeria and the U.S. with jurisdiction in the 17 South-eastern States of the U.S. and territory.

These are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.

Laro said: “As a Consulate, we are extremely proud of our citizens here and that’s why we engage closely with them and we know what they do.

“Nigerians here in Georgia are definitely law-abiding, hardworking and they contribute to enhancing the image of Nigeria, their country, through their actions.

“Nigerians are really doing a lot here.

“We have Nigerians running NGOs and with the recognition within the State of Georgia and so on.

“They are highly united under different organisations and we have an umbrella body, which is called the ‘Organisation of Nigerians in Georgia’.

“This umbrella body accommodates all or a good number of the various Nigerian organisations and associations in the State of Georgia.

“I’ve been around all those states and I have to encourage them to do similar things’’.

He, however, said there could be isolated cases of deviants, like in any human group.

“Occasionally, there will be the case of someone get arrested for drunk driving or driving under the influence of one thing or the other.

“But one would not take it lightly because everybody has to keep within the law and by and large, the majority of Nigerians are really law abiding,’’ he said.

The envoy said the relations between the Consulate and the Nigerian community was cordial, friendly and mutually beneficial.

According to him, the relations between the Nigerian community and the Consulate is one that can be described as a very close engagement.

“My colleagues and I demonstrate this, not just by what we say but also through our actions.

“We get invited to events and we show up.

“We also invite members of the community, whenever we have functions,’’ the envoy said.

He said the Consulate received between 1,200 and 1,300 passport applications and between 350 and 500 visa applications monthly.

Laro added that the figure had not changed even with the introduction of the electronic visa.

“On average, we get 350 to 500 visa applications monthly and even before the introduction of the e-visa arrangement, that’s about the same range that we had.

“The average number of applications we get monthly ranged between 1,200 and 1,300.

“We noticed that at certain times of the year, there might be a slight increase, especially when schools are on holiday.

“That’s when parents would have the time to bring them to the Consulate for the biometrics,’’ he said.

The envoy lauded the Federal Government for upgrading the nation’s visa to the electronic type, saying this has upgraded Nigeria’s visa application procedure.

“It’s in line with current best global practices and it has enhanced the security of our visa,’’ Laro said.

An Indian man joined his friends to rape his daughter during a horrific 18-hour assault after ‘gifting’ her to them during a visit.

The father who is in his late fifties, introduced his 35-year-old daughter to his friend at a fair in Kamlapur. Then they went to visit another who lives in Lucklow.

According to the Times of India, the woman was gang-raped before she was finally able to escape back to her mother’s house.

Sitapur Superintendent of Police Sureshrao Kulkarni said: “The father was arrested.

“He got bail in February this year.”

This was not the first time there had been suspicions that the father had an inappropriate relationship with his daughter. In November, he had been exiled from the village amid rumours that he was in an incestuous relationship with his daughter, This has, however, not been proved.

While one of his other friends who joined in the assault was also arrested, the third man was able to escape and is currently on the run to evade capture.

This incident caused a huge stir in the country which is currently being rocked by a revolution due to worsening cases of rape. The women have decided to stand against it.

Kaduna Govt Sacks 4,562 Newly-Recruited Teachers

Kaduna State government has dismissed 4,562 newly-recruited teachers a few weeks after they were issued with employment letters to replace those sacked for failing a competency test.

The state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ja’afaru Sani, who stated this at a briefing yesterday, explained that the newly-recruited teachers were sacked because they found their ways into the service of state government through dubious means.

The state government had sacked 22,000 teachers that failed competency test based on questions meant for primary four pupils and announced that it will replace them with competent teachers, based on a competitive recruitment exercise.

However, at the end of the exercise, some of the teachers could not correctly write acceptance letters, forcing the state government, according to the Commissioner, to organise another screening for all the newly-recruited teachers.

However, at the end of the exercise, some of the teachers could not correctly write acceptance letters, forcing the state government, according to the Commissioner, to organise another screening for all the newly-recruited teachers. Sani said:
Quote
“At the end, 4,562 incompetent ones, believed to have found their way into the final list illegally, were fished out, leaving 11,335 competent ones. “The 11,335 newly-recruited teachers, predominantly degree holders, including a few with Master’s degrees, have already been deployed to over 4,000 primary schools.

Asset recovery: Lawyers threatens legal action against Obla over Uwajeh’s appointment ‎

Controversy has trailed the appointment of the self acclaimed private investigator in the United kingdom, Victor Uwajeh by the Federal government, as a consultant to trace and recover undeclared assets and proceeds of fraud as part of the ongoing fight against corruption.

Already, a group of aggrieved lawyers has queried the appointment which was done by the Chairman of the presidential panel on Recovery of Public Property, PARP, Chief Okoi Obono Obla.

The aggrieved lawyers under the auspices of Lawyers Against Corruption (LAC) have threatened to drag to Chief Obla to court over the said appointment.

Confirming the appointment of Uwajeh to journalists , Chief Obla said the panel has the powers to co-opt anybody who can assist in the recovery of government properties.

“Why do you want to confirm his appointment. We have the powers to appoint anybody to assist us in our job.

“He is a very experienced professional investigator who has worked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and has a track record on money tracing and asset recovery and we need his experience in helping us to carry out our mandate.

“It will interest you to know that he is doing it for free as a patriotic Nigerian.”

‎However, the lawyers wondered why a man who has a four-count criminal charge pending against him in court should be appointed by the panel.

‎Justice John Tsoho of the Abuja division of the Federal High Court has declared Uwajeh, who has been evading court summons as a fugitive of the law.

The judge further berated the Nigeria Police for protecting a fugitive of the law, after he was told by the prosecution counsel, Aminu Alilu that he was under police protection.

‎Before the Federal High Court, Victor Victor Uwajeh is facing a four court charge bordering on forgery, documents falsification, fraud and procuring forged documents.

The court has since granted the request made by the ‎Federal government to serve criminal summons on Uwajeh through substituted means, by pasting at his premises.

Justice Tsoho granted the application after counsel to the Federal government, Alilu informed the court that Uwajeh had on several times evaded service as he did previously.

FG alleged that Uwajeh tried to obtain money through fraudulent means from Senator Andy Uba who is representing Anambra South Senatorial District.

Uwajeh was said to have been indicted by an investigation of a crack team from the Nigerian Police Force conducted on a petition that was written to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, by Senator Uba.

The Senator had in his petition, accused Uwajeh of attempting to use forged and illegally procured documents to extort money from him.

However, when the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, Alilu informed the court that one of the court bariff who went with the policeman at Uwajeh’s residents was almost shot by the policeman guiding his house.

“one of the bailiff went to the address of the defendant at No:9 Jesse Jackson street Asokoro and was almost shot by the policemen guarding his house.

“The defendant is aware of this matter. His counsel had pleaded that he travelled to the United States and that once he return, he will appear in court.

“I know that it is not yet ripe to make an application for a bench warrant. However, I will apply section 124 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act for leave of the court to paste a copy of the Criminal of the Criminal summon in a conspicuous part in the premises where he resides”, he said.

Justice Tsoho after listening to the submissions wondered why someone that the state wants to bring to justice will be protected by the same people looking for him, he wondered why the police will be protecting a fugitive from the law.

He urged the people going to effect the service at his residence to be careful and mindful of what had already played out.

He held that, “giving the circumstances, section 124 has become inevitable. Accordingly, the application is granted. Service should be effected on Uwajeh through substituted means”.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to May 21 for arraignment.

‎The group of lawyers in a statement signed by its National President, Ahmed Lukma and the Secretary, Mr. Liman Shuaibu, there has been some unconfirmed online media that a fugitive of the law has been appointed a consultant by the PARP.

The group further added that it will challenge the action in court to proved that Victor Uwajeh is a man of questionable character citing instances on how he allegedly down loaded EFCC files during the tenure of Mrs Farida Waziri as the Executive Chairman of the EFCC when he paraded a fake certificate as a United kingdom private investigator extorting money from politically exposed persons.

According to the group, Uwajeh was docked by the EFCC, for impersonation before a FCT high court.

The group further added that the certificate Victor Uwajeh is parading was issued to him last year in the United Kingdom as a license to work as a human and vehicle access controller, elevator and office building guarding and car park operator. This license was issued to Victor Uwajeh on the 26th May, 2017 with license number 100390916576656, issued by the Security Industry Authority (sia) UK. This is information is verifiable. All other security licenses been paraded by Uwajeh are fake and forged documents and they are downloadable free of charge on google.

The group further alleged that if allowed Uwajeh will download government files in the federal ministry of Justice and start extorting money from politically exposed persons.

The group also said that they will do everything within the ambit of the law to stop the purported appointment of Victor Uwajeh aka Olikaeze Onicha Ugbo in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, another legal practitioner, ‎Anayo Adibe condemned the said appointment while questioning the credibility of Uwajeh.

In a press statement in Abuja, Adigbe said his character as at present remain in doubt to hold public office until he presents himself bona fide to clear his name, and establish that his character remains in good stead.
” It presents a great obstacle to the intellect to fathom the reasons for and ramifications of Victor Osita Uwajeh’s proposed appointment to a Federal Government office as a ‘consultant on asset recovery’.

“The gentleman – l use the label merely in respect of formal convention- in question is, until he presents himself bona fide to clear his name, and establish that his character remains in good stead. This is public business, and we as honest members of the Nigerian public retain the right to scrutinise those who are mandated to act of our collective behalf.

Meanwhile, as it were, let us attend to the facts of the matter. Uwajeh, allegedly a private investigator based in the United Kingdom, who apparently also operates under the alia of ‘Olikaeze Onichaugbo’ is under prosecution by the Attorney General of the Federation for charges including conspiracy, criminal impersonation, fraud and forgery in CHARGE No.FHC/ABJ/CR/148/2017 FRN. Vs. VICTOR OSITA UWAJEH. The case is held before Hon. Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Abuja. Uwajeh stands accused of defrauding British authorities by way of forged documents. Following a report on the issue:

“A preliminary investigation conducted to verify these bogus certificates Victor Uwajeh is using to deceive and defraud unsuspecting people shows that the certificate Victor Uwajeh is parading was issued to him last year 2017 in the United Kingdom as a permit to work as a human and vehicle access controller, elevator and office building guarding and car park operator. This license was issued to Victor Uwajeh on the 26th May, 2017 with license number 100390916576656, issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), UK. This is information is verifiable. All other security licenses being paraded by Uwajeh are fake and forged documents which are downloadable free of charge of the internet. This is a brief character of a person that will be appointed as a consultant to an anti corruption agency.”

It is a season of anomy truly when a country offers no moral or logical support in times of great absurdity, but rather compounds and contributes to the pandemonium that runs rampant within her boundaries. The question that is left begging; who is next for appointment? Shall we venture to Kirikiri and make Honorables and Chairmen of the constituent inmates? Or perhaps we should round up the bank robbers and make them bank account officers; or let us make pharmacists of drug pushers; mechanics of auto-vandals; day-care teachers of kidnappers. I believe I am quite right to stretch the matter ad absurdum, because it is frankly rather absurd.

What is the logic behind it? Perhaps the masterminds behind this decision have reasoned that since Uwajeh is on trial for fraud, among other counts, he would be in a position better to understand the impropriety he would be investigation. The proposal is a laughable one, but it is bitter laughter indeed. It is a gaffe, plain and simple.

Now, I am not condemning Uwajeh outright; as the rule of law holds the accused is innocent until proven guilty. Such matters are to be left to the judge in a court of law. But what is to be said of a man who has so egregiously refused to stand trial and provide himself the opportunity to clear himself of his charges? He remains, as described by the presiding judge, ‘a fugitive of the law’, and certainly a man of dubious character. What it is certain, is that this is not someone who appears worthy of such an appointment.

If we are to persist with this rewarding of a disregard of our nation’s laws, we are only complicit in the soiling of our reputation on a grand stage. Have we no remnant sense of propriety? If we do not take ourselves seriously and hold ourselves to some standard, we are only quickening a downhill slope into a dovetail of ludicrousity and disrepute. To drop metaphor, if we do not respect ourselves – and with such decisions as the one to appoint Uwajeh, we seem so hellbent on disrespecting ourselves- no one else will respect us. Let us put our house in order and call ourselves back to sanity.

Baby girl suffocates to death, after giant teddy bear fell on her

A young mother of a toddler has revealed the moment she discovered her baby girl had been suffocated in her sleep by a stuffed toy at the side of her bed.

Dexy Leigh Walsh, 23, found 18-month-old Connie Rose’s body in her bed with the giant teddy on top of her. Dexy said she had stuffed a narrow gap between Connie Rose’s bed and the wall with soft toys to stop her from falling off the bed. But when she went to check on her, she found her underneath the 3ft-tall teddy and not breathing.

Efforts were made to revive the child but she was eventually pronounced dead by paramedics at their home in Dundee.

Dexy narrated to MailOnline:

It was just a normal school morning. I went through to the girls’ room to waken them up and get Dior ready for school. When I opened the door all I could see of my little girl was her legs sticking out from under the teddy. She was lying face facing up in the bed but with the big teddy on top of her. She wasn’t breathing.

I immediately started CPR on her while someone phoned for an ambulance. I was speaking to the ambulance people as I tried to bring her around. My mum who lives closely arrived and she took over. When the paramedics came they tried as well but it was too late. My little girl had gone.

Grieving her daughter’s death, Dexy said:

I just think now that if I had taken away all the soft toys out of the bed at night, she may have fallen out. She may have only hurt herself. Maybe a broken arm but she would still be with us.

Connie Rose was buried on March 21, with family members releasing pink balloons into the sky in her memory. Dexy has now started a campaign urging parents not to leave cuddly toys in young children’s beds overnight.

First Vice President of the NFF, Barrister Seyi Akinwumi has stated that Nigeria’s Super Eagles would excel in Russia despite being the youngest team going to the FIFA Mundial.

Akinwunmi argues that the team would have no problem facing the task of competing against the best at the world cup.

Akinwumi said experience for the Super Eagles players will come with game time and that the aspiration to be the best will keep driving the team.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were ranked by FIFA as the youngest team to have qualified to the World Cup back in 2017.

Former Nigeria captain, Nwankwo Kanu has revealed that former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel is the player that can solve Super Eagles’s creative problem ahead of the 2018 World Cup tournament in Russia.

Kanu believes Mikel can be the solution to the team’s lack of creativity if properly given the freedom to play in the role.

“I believe we don’t really need to go too far for a solution for a player who can provide creativity to the team,” Kanu told AOIFootball.com.

“I think a player like Mikel Obi can perfectly play in that position because he has shown in recent past that he can deliver when it matters most.

“Look at our qualifiers, especially against Cameroon and Algeria, he brought his attacking prowess to play and ensured the team was able to gain maximum points.

“I know a bit about him from our time with the national team; if given the right support from the back, he will definitely deliver upfront”, he said.

Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has emphasised the need to use sports as a veritable tool to change the mindset of youths in the state.

He spoke on Thursday during the official draws and kits presentation to the participating teams in Yenagoa, reiterated government’s commitment to sports development.

No fewer than 130 communities and tertiary institutions registered to participate in the second edition of the Governor Seriake Dickson Football Tournament, tagged, “The Restoration Cup 2018”, scheduled to kick-off in few days.

The Governor emphasised that the football tournament is yet another tool in unifying and integrating the communities, and also discovering hidden talents among youths for self sustenance and development.

Dickson said the state government was making plans to support football in all the communities, as he urged the participating teams to take advantage of the tournament to launch their careers.

“I must commend the Central Working Committee, and the private individuals that has supported this competition. I must also commend the participating teams. I encourage you to give your best, as I look forward to be present at the finals. Most importantly, this tournament has come to stay, as I would ensure its continuity, even after my tenure as Governor,” he said.

He added that though the competition had being private sector driven, the successes recorded so far have encouraged government to provide some support for the competition.

Commissioner for Sports, Hon Perekiye Buruboyefe, in his remarks, said that the competition was aimed at taking sports development to the grassroots, and would go a long way in discovering football talents.

Also speaking, Director General of the Competition, Ono Akpe, noted that the game was strictly on knock-out basis, and only the final two teams would emerge from the eight local council areas of the state.

According to him, “The prize money remains the same (N11 million) as the maiden edition. The winners will get N5 million, N3 million for the second best team, and N2 million for the third best team.

“Consolation prizes include, N500,000 for the fourth best team, N200,000 for the best behaved team, N100,000 each for the best goalkeeper, highest goal scorer, and of course, the most valuable player,” he explained.

FIFA to replace Confederations Cup with Club World Cup

FIFA has laid out plans to replace the Confederations Cup with an expanded Club World Cup that would only be held every four years from 2021, a source told AFP on Wednesday.

Acc erations Cup in Russia won by Germany would therefore be the last.

The competition would last 18 days. The new format means the club competition would interfere less with the rest of the football calendar, particularly in Europe.

FIFA also faces the problem that while its principal tournament, the World Cup, is immensely lucrative and popular, neither the Confederations Cup nor the Club World Cup have been remotely as attractive to fans or sponsors.

Clubs from the six confederations take part in the Club World Cup, but the gulf in quality can be embarrassingly large and only sides from Europe or South America have ever won it.

Although Brazilian sides claimed the first three editions, only one of the last 11 has not been won by a European team, inaugural winners in 2000, Corinthians triumphed for the second time in 2012.

In the United Arab Emirates in December, Real Madrid became the first club to retain the trophy when they beat Brazilians Gremio 1-0 with a goal by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The changes dovetail with FIFA’s desire to build on plans already unveiled by UEFA, the European federation, and CONCACAF, which runs football in North and Central America and the Caribbean, for a Nations League to replace friendlies in the international calendar.

The inaugural UEFA Nations League will begin in September of this year, with the top four teams going through to the finals in June 2019.

The international governing body wants all the continents to set up similar competitions, using divisional formats, to be played in September, October and December of even-numbered years and culminating in an eight-team international tournament the following year.

In order to finance its Nations League and the revamped Club World Cup, FIFA would look to team up with a consortium of private investors ready to invest some 25 billion dollars in the rights for the period from 2021 to 2033.

ording to a letter Gianni Infantino, the president of world football’s governing body, sent to the heads of the continental confederations, and that has been seen by AFP, the Confederations Cup would cease, while the club tournament would no longer be played annually in December.

It would now be held every fourth June in the year before a World Cup just as the Confederations Cup was.
