Bride Suddenly Disappears During Their Wedding in Niger State

Bride suddenly disappears during their wedding in Niger state. The police in Suleja, Niger State, have confirmed the arrest of the parents and relation of a bride, who disappeared after her wedding, refusing to go to her husband’s home.

The arrest of the trio followed a complaint to the police by their son in-law, Shuaib Dauda, for the sudden disappearance of their daughter few hours after wedding.

Mr Dauda earns a living as an auto mechanic.

Aliyu Lawal, officer-in-charge of Kaduna-Road police outpost in Suleja, gave the confirmation.

Mr Lawal, a police inspector, said the incident occurred on May 6 when the bridegroom complained to the police that the people he sent to the bride’s home to fetch her, in accordance with the tradition, did not see her.

Mr Lawal said the footdragging by the brides’ family to deliver the bride to the bridegroom led to the disruption of peace in the area, hence the arrest of the parents and the marriage guardian.

“They were arrested on Sunday, May 6, and granted bail on Monday May 7,” he said.

But Abubakar Haruna, popularly known as Zakiru and a resident of Hayi along Kaduna Road, said that he gave out two daughters same day, Fiddausi to Mr Dauda and Saliha to one Muhammadu Murtala.

He said before the marriage, Mr Dauda and Mr Murtala promised to comply with all the religious and traditional obligations for the marriage such as the dowry and buying of clothes and boxes for the brides.

“After the wedding ceremony, Dauda said he could not afford to buy the clothes and boxes to the bride as promised earlier.

“Fiddausi, realising that Murtala (the husband to Saliha) had redeemed his promise and presented the traditional gifts and Dauda did not, ran away to the neighbouring house until her bridegroom fulfilled his own promise,’’ he said.

Mr Haruna said already beddings, traditional kitchen wares, furniture and other domestic utensils had been taken to Dauda’s home, ahead of the conveyance of Fiddausi to her new home.

He explained that while they were searching for Fiddausi, the team sent by the bridegroom to fetch Fiddausi to the matrimonial home hinted Mr Dauda of the sudden disappearance of the bride.

He claimed Mr Dauda mobilised his friends who stormed his compound, insisting that Fiddausi must be produced. In the process they molested him and brutalised his wife, named Bayi.

“Some other female guests from Kano were also brutalised, food items and other valuables they brought for the wedding ceremony were stolen by the hoodlums who attacked us for our alleged failure to produce the bride,’’ Mr Haruna said.

Mr Haruna said while the hoodlums were molesting his family and his guests, the police officers from Kaduna Road outpost arrested him, his wife and his younger brother who is also the marriage guardian. The latter was identified as Umar Musa.

Mr Haruna dismissed the allegation by the police that he was arrested for disrupting public peace in the community. Rather, he explained that the police asked him to refund N260,000 to Dauda, being the amount he spent on the marriage.

Mr Haruna said when he failed to pay the money as demanded, he was detained together with his wife and his younger brother by the police.

According to him, they were detained overnight at the police outpost and were granted bail following the intervention of his lawyer, Aliyu Musa.

He said the bail was obtained on the condition that they would bring the money the following day or risk prosecution.

Meanwhile, Fiddausi has returned to her father’s house

To some critics amazement, the church-goers obliged and soon started waving their panties in the air. Though it is not clear what the pastor was trying to achieve by asking the unimaginable of his congregation as the worship session is going on, however he was heard saying, “Must we stop because somebody does not like it?”

While this took place, the pastor placed his hand firmly on his gentials. While he prayed, his members also imitated him and also placed their hands on their genitals.

ON June 9, 1984, I left Owerri for the Ibadan Polytechnic, two days ahead of the date for prospective
corps members to be encamped. From that 9th till date, my life has never been the same again.
Prior to that date, there was skin-deep phobia to serve in the west due to alleged rampant juju usage
that had resulted in the death of corps members. Some of us in those days prayed and fasted against
being posted westward.
I braved all odds to go to Ibadan for the first time. Going to Ibadan two days ahead of time was to avail
me the opportunity to understudy the city and know if I would adapt or head back home. At Ijebu Ode,
where Ekene Dili Chukwu bus dropped me off, the struggle by Agberos to force my luggage into a
particular vehicle resulted in the tearing of the box with my “belongings” littering all over the place. To
heighten my anxiety, nobody spoke one English word. It was all Yoruba.
In that feverish condition, I looked up and saw “Welcome to Ibadan Polytechnic”. My heart sprang up.
Unbelievable!! From this point, things assumed positive crescendo on all sides. The moment I
disengaged from that car, my perception of the Yoruba people changed for life. Other miraculous
events in quick succession gave credence that God was behind all these.
For reporting first and two days ahead of other 2,000 corps members, I was made the camp leader –
deputised by Abubakar Momoh – the radical Political Science Professor who died late last year.
Posted to the headquarters of Oluyole Local Government Area, Idi Ayunre, for my primary assignment,
the Principal of Prospect High School, Abanla, one Mrs Ajobo, offered me accommodation in her vast
school premises. Here, I offered to teach final year students English Language from 4pm when I closed
from Idi Ayunre office to 8pm most times.
This long story is recounted because of my desire to mention the name(s) of one or two great Nigerians
who God used to bless me in the process, Chief Oba Otudeko of Honeywell Group. Throughout my
service year in Ibadan, I never met this man. But one night something subconsciously told me to make
more impact in that land as a compliment to the love that Abanla community and the parents of my
students showed me.
I got home in Obowu, Imo State, safely and a month later, I was getting ready to leave for Ibadan to
become a civil servant when a letter from the family mail box was handed over to me. It was a letter
proclaiming me the 1985/86 NYSC Presidential Award winner which came with an automatic
employment. In 1987, I enlisted into the federal civil service. This week, I would exit as the director, IT.
It is instructive that within the period under review, the grace of God had taken me to all the continents
except Australia.
Now the purpose of this long gist is for people who now campaign for the scrapping of NYSC to simply
read my story and how it demystified a hitherto dangerous myth about the Yorubas. Secondly, to let
Nigerians know this highly detribalised Nigerian; Oba Otudeko who made a hitherto Igbo boy a senior
citizen courtesy of his generosity.

I also put on record, the overwhelming love shown me by Oluyole Local Government and Abanla
Community in particular where majority of my students came from. I recall with love how Oyibo!
Oyibo!! rented the air whenever I was seen walking along the community. To many others, individuals,
groups I could not mention here, I remain proud of you till death.

No fewer than 312 rape and
defilement cases are pending in the
High Court of Justice across Delta
State.
Attorney-General and
Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter
Mrakpor, who disclosed this to
newsmen in Asaba, yesterday, said
it was discovered following the
establishment of a Rape/Sexual
Violence Offences/Child Rights Unit
to address incessant sexual abuse of
children in the state.
Mrakpor explained that the unit
also ensured that victims of rape and
domestic violence receive holistic
free medical attention, counseling,
rehabilitation and other support
services.
According to him, “since the
creation of this unit, five convictions
have been secured in respect of
sexual related cases. In respect to
domestic/aggressive violence or
behaviour within the home, the unit has received nine petitions
from victims out of which it has
been able to resolve six spouses/
partners”.

Gov Umahi declares war on Onu, Elechi, says they have no legacies

Governor Davis Umahi of Ebonyi
state has lambasted the former Governor
of Old Abia state and current Minister of
Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya
Onu and the immediate past Governor
of Ebonyi state,Chief Martin Elechi of
leaving no legacy when they held sway
as Governors.
He stated this while addressing party
faithful in Ohaukwu local government
area of the state at a mega rally organized
in his honour.
Umahi frowned at what he termed
high level of propaganda against his
administration by the duo through
young men they contracted to dish out
falsehood on Facebook.
The Governor assured he would retire
all his opponents in 2019 general election
the way he did in 2015.
His words:”Let me challenge Dr.
Ogbonnaya Onu. When he was a
governor, there was nothing Ohaozara
people or old Afikpo people could show
for it. There is nothing Elechi can say is
his legacy in this state, why don’t you
leave us alone? Let me assure you that
by the powers that brought us to power,
we shall retire all of them in 2019, we
shall retire all of them. And let me tell
them something, if they say they are
leaders, I challenge them let us open a
debate. Even if they want, let us go to
their national party secretariat, I will
meet them there. Let us debate about the
future of this state and you will see they
have nothing.
“When I went to Ikwo few days ago, I
stood at the community of the immediate
past Governor, Martin Elechi and I wept.
I immediately directed the construction
of one road that will pass through the
front of his house. The only road that
is good in Ikwo is built by me. Today, I
am building four more roads that are all
going on in Ikwo local government.
“Let me tell you something. They are
so frustrated that they went to Facebook
to write falsehood about me, they
have contracted young men to write
falsehood against me. They are digging
and burying their destinies. Criticize us
objectively but not to go to face book and
write rubbish about us. I meet will them
on the face book very soon.
“They said I have a pact with senator
Anyim that I will do four years and he
will do four years, which kind four
years? Mine is going to be eight years.
They came again and said I have
been suspended from PDP, are you
suspending a man that is Landlord? Na
we own PDP”, he said.
Umahi disclosed that he has
contracted five Senior Advocates of
Nigeria (SANs) against the suit filed by
opposition members in the state seeking
to stop $150millon loan he sort from the
African Development bank and Islamic
bank.
“On 21st of this month, African
Development Bank is coming from
Abdjian to go round the ring road and
determine the date of the award of the
ring road. It is a shame that it is those
who are benefiting most from the ring
road that are the ones that went to court.
But I engaged them in the court with five
Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs).
“Do not mind the detractors; we
have frustrated them so much. What
will they tell us? Will they tell us about
our empowerments? Will they tell us
about the flyovers? Will they tell us
about streetlights? Will they tell us about
water? They have nothing to offer.
“From 21st of this month, we are
going to empower 13,000 youths and
women of this state. We are going to
empower all the political parties not only
the PDP, all the political parties are going
to get empowerment from wards to local
governments and to the state. This is the
taste of empowerment because whether
you are APC, PDP, Labour or whatever
party, they are my subjects and I want to
make them powerful so that they will be
able to have transport to vote for me

Gowon opens up!

*My pitiable condition after office led past leaders into corruption
*I didn’t prepare for the future
*I had nothing apart from salary when I was overthrown
Former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) has decried the alarming rate of corrupt
practices among former Nigerian leaders.
The former Nigerian leader reasoned that the “pitiable” condition he found himself after his
ouster from office in 1975 might have spurred their attitude to corruption.
Recalling the events of 1975 when he was overthrown by his junior colleagues yesterday,
Gowon said he had nothing apart from his salaries as at the time he left office.
The former head of state, who spoke at the Eighth Annual General Meeting and Conference for
Heads of Anti-corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa, joked that he “did not prepare for
the future.”
He said the condition he found himself was perhaps the reason why some leaders who came
later decided to “prepare” for such times by engaging in unholy activities of “pilfering” the
nation’s treasury.
Speaking further, he said “it was some of my staff who attended a meeting of the defunct
Organisation of African Unity, OAU, with me during which I was overthrown that contributed
their estacode to let me have something to live on.”
According to Gowon, he and officials of his government did not indulge in corruption, and
complaints of corruption against some of his ministers were appropriately treated
“Everything we had in the country belong to the nation, belong to the people and we must not
touch anything.
“We made sure nothing like that happened, especially in the civil service,” the former head of
state explained.
He regretted the action of some past leaders who allegedly engaged in corrupt practices which,
according to him, gives all former Nigerian leaders “a very bad name and image.”
Gowon, however, condemned generalisation regarding corruption accusations on the past
leaders, revealing that he feels sad anytime media reports lump up all Nigerian leaders on the
issue of corruption
It would be recalled that Gowon, a retired general who led Nigeria through three years of civil
war during his nine-year reign, was removed from office on July 29, 1975, by his junior
colleagues while attending a meeting of the defunct OAU, now African Union, AU.
Although the succeeding regime of Murtala Muhammad did not find him (Gowon) personally
culpable of corruption, it seized assets from 10 of his 12 military state governors deemed to
have been corruptly acquired and dismissed them from service.

APC congresses, PDP and prophecies foretold

$

NO one was surprised by the acrimony that visited many of the ward congresses and Ekiti governorship primary organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) last weekend. Under the scheming national chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, and the sometimes lugubrious President Buhari, party leaders have spent the better part of three years paying little or no attention to building and entrenching their party. Once they won the general elections, they threw away their party manifesto, dismantled the platform upon which they won the polls, fought like mad to grab whatever each leader could grab, and abandoned the party to nobody and to everybody, alias cabal. Having sowed the wind for three years, it is unlikely they are shocked to be reaping the whirlwind. Indeed, if anything, they must be shocked that they are still standing at all.

President Buhari is strictly and philosophically speaking not a politician. He remains at bottom a military man, going by his constant sulking about the limiting influence of democratic strictures, particularly the parliament and the rule of law. That he did not pay attention to building the APC and forging a united and impregnable party out of its skeletal framework was, therefore, expected. He reposed more faith in a narrow clique of kith and kin with whom he felt conversant and comfortable than look to the party in order to broaden its base and widen its appeal. Obsessed with percentages, he looked for ways to compensate, by ginger ratios, those he felt showed him more loyalty than even those who worked hardest for the party’s unexpected victory in 2015.

It is often said that the APC’s legacy parties are the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Little mention is normally made of the significant influence and role of the faction of the PDP that joined hands with others to wrest control from Dr Jonathan. Yet the nPDP played a major role in that election, but, as they complained last week in a letter they wrote in April, they were yet to receive commensurate compensation or attention. In the letter, which some APC leaders regard as nPDP’s casus belli, the complainants gave a week’s notice to the party to initiate dialogue and give assurances that the party would become more inclusive and operate like a real political party. They did not spell out what they would do if their warnings were left unheeded. In turn, schizoid party leaders have suggested that the nPDP was untrustworthy and had made destructive plans in anticipation of their migration to another party.

Some party leaders have suggested that the nPDP group should wait for ex-Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole to assume the party leadership in June in order to get a redress for the injuries they claim to have suffered. It is not clear whether they will wait, or whether they think anything can come out of the effort. If the nPDP has not left by now, it is simply because they fear the punitive measures a government that exhibits contempt for the rule of law could bring upon them. They will stay for a little while, it seems, but they are unlikely to be in doubt about the party’s lack of capacity to remake itself and operate along inclusive lines. They know by experience that the president is the party’s lodestar, and everything virtually revolves around him. More, they know that his insularity would limit the flexibility of the next chairman and constrict the concessions they might get. They know that given the nature and capacity of the president and those he trusts, the party is unlikely ever to inspire anyone, let alone be remoulded into a great, modern party.

The acrimonious congresses, the aloofness demonstrated by the incumbent chairman, the dictatorship of antidemocratic governors widening the schisms in the party, and the strangulating control exercised by a shadowy group of individuals in Abuja, are not likely to bode well for the party. For a party that should have mastered the art of internal democracy, but whose leaders preferred to scheme for tenure elongation on the grounds that congresses would widen the schism in the party, there is nothing to indicate that sooner or later it would not implode. Indeed, that it has not imploded is perhaps due paradoxically to the influence and misplacement of priorities of President Buhari himself. Even if the party survives to win the 2019 polls, it already contains the seed of its own destruction far more poignantly than the PDP ever possessed in its crazy 16 years in power. Party leaders will prop up the APC for as long as they can; but in the end, except they can find a saviour, it will collapse. The signs were evident in their congresses; and though they may paper over the cracks, and even ensure a smooth transition to the Oshiomhole chairmanship, the party is too fractious, too undisciplined, too superficial, too callous to one another, and too badly led to endure for as long as some of their members fantasise.

Wenger confirmed that he had received
job offers from within the Premier League
but said that he would find it hard to come

titles and seven FA Cup wins.
“I amnot ready for that at the moment,” he

“It would be very difficult to manage
against Arsenal, I did stay at home that day. I
do not envisage that at the moment.
“I had offers, yes, of course. At the moment,
I have not spoken to anybody. I had many
