APC high handedness in Ekiti cannot happen in N/Delta – Uwanta

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Andrew Uwanta has said that the use of Federal might by the All Progressive Congress, APC to win the last gubernatorial election in Ekiti state would not be work in any PDP-controlled state in the Niger Delta.

He has also said that any attempt to intimidate the people and voters in the region with Security Forces for the advantage of the APC would spell doom for the unity and coexistence of Nigeria.

Uwanta, who is also the chairman of the Akwa Ibom state Assembly Service Commission, told Nigerian Pilot in Uyo yesterday in Uyo that the use of intimidating tactics by the Federal Government controlled APC to suppress the will of the people in the last election in Ekiti has dragged the practice of democracy backwards in Nigeria.

He however expressed confidence that such scenario would not present itself again since the next gubernatorial elections would be taking place simultaneously in most states of the federation and with less concentration of security forces in one state as was the case with the election in Ekiti.

“What happened in Ekiti where the APC use the might of the Federal Government to award themselves electoral victory will not I believe repeat itself in the general elections because there will be less concentration of security forces in states quite unlike in Ekiti. Akwa Ibom and other states in the region are different because even 100,000 policemen in one state cannot intimidate the people. We are ready to
protect our votes here.

“But if Ekiti repeat itself especially in the South South then we will take our destiny into our hands because we will not allow ourselves to be colonised again. If it happens again then they don’t want Nigeria to exist again,” he said.

Uwanta pointed out that the PDP were not unmindful of the planned use of federal institutions by the APC to gain victory in Ekiti but said that as a party with strong democratic ideals and structure the PDP had only planned to win in a fair and peaceful manner adding that “the PDP does not need security forces to win elections”.

On whether the six months arrears of salaries owed civil servants in Ekiti affected the fortunes of the party in the elections, Uwanta argued that salary arrears to civil servants was not peculiar to Ekiti, insisting that the loss of the election by the PDP was due to abuse of federal and democratic institutions by the APC.

“I acknowledge the supervision, conduct and monitoring of the election

APC government has failed totally, woefully – Falae

National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Chief Olu Falae has said that APC led government has failed Nigeria totally and woefully in every ramifications.

Falae made this known in Enugu weekend when the party unveiled their manifesto ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The SDP boss who was represented at the occasion by Chief Ebenezer Ikeyina, the National Vice Chairman, South East, said that APC had wasted “our time,” these past three years, citing the numerous killings as part of the degradation of the country.

He said that should Nigerians give SDP a chance, they will show that they are capable of moving the nation forward.

Falae who said that their party’s manifesto was to magnify Nigerian people and restructure the Federation pointed out that any Nigerian that does not support restructuring is an enemy of the country.

“If any person is not talking about restructuring, the person is an enemy of Nigeria,” he said.

He also pointed out that Nigeria is a country everybody should be proud of nothing that SDP government would change the face of governance if given the chance.

Speaking earlier, the Enugu State chairman of SDP, Barrister John Nwobodo, lamented that Nigeria is currently at crossroads waiting for visionary leaders as an SDP government would offer should they assume power.

“Nigeria today is in dire straits. We are in a crossroad, puzzled and perplexed. We can get out of the doldrums of misery, penury, poverty, insecurity. Nigeria’s deliverance and salvation is in your hands, in my hands and our hands.

“Nigerians have never been despaired, despondent and disconsolate as we are today. Never before in history have we been so enmeshed and embroiled in man-made afflictions and sufferings characterised by hunger, poverty, joblessness, avoidable deaths, ethnic cleansing, and internal displacement due to terrorism and herdsmen killings. In short, APC led Federal Government has failed to meet the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians,” Nwobodo laments pointing out that SDP government would give Nigeria a new lease of life with a well thought out and articulated manifesto.

Nwobodo said that the party has a 12-point manifesto theme which they will spread among their members in the states, local governments and wards.

Reaction trails Mbaka’s latest prophecy on Buhari, lawmakers

$

Nigerians have reacted over the latest prophecy made by the spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka criticizing President Buhari-led administration over incessant killings in the country.

The fiery priest on Sunday during a sermon at the Adoration ground, Enugu state, warned President Buhari and members of the federal legislature of impending doom.

He advised the President to travel to Rome where he would seek God’s forgiveness for the blood of men of God and innocent men, women and children killed under his watch.

Mbaka said there will be disaster if highly and lowly-placed leaders in the country failed to ask God for forgiveness.

In response, some Nigerians took to their Twitter handles to express divergent opinions on the prophecy.

Some criticized the Catholic priest for condemning Buhari after pledging support and describing Buhari as the messiah in 2015.

However, below are some comments:

@Lola_Ojomo “Good advise Rev Mbaka and you failed to add that they should bring a large bag of money along so you could get your share like Ayo Oritshejefor.”

@Duks_OG “Ask Reverend father Mbaka whether Angel Gabriel among the Angels that are warming up for Buhari. Can we just chill about prophesy this ,prophesy that and face this University of life squarely….. This was his fav Mcm.”

@Obioha_Chibuike “It’s either Mbaka is fake, or God is confused. But it’s definitely one of the two above. Was Buhari not suppose to be the messiah ? In 2015 Mbaka basically campaigned for Buhari.”

@Killz09 “No be the same Mbaka wey talk say na buhari be the solution to our problems?

@IamOD_Sit “Anyway, I applaud Rev Mbaka for speaking against what is going on in the country, unlike daddy GOs who keep sitting on the fence to look objective. Being subjective is never a crime. Let’s talk truth to power when needed.”

@Agorasblog “Mbaka was one of the gullible creatures that supported Buhari and APC. If Mbaka is truly a “man of God,” he (and his fake prophesy) should have realised that Buhari is a charlatan and wouldn’t deliver what he promised.”

@OD_Sit “It’s people like Rev Mbaka who made a lot not believe in “God says” anymore. You say God says this and that, but when things go south, you later turn around to condemn what you previously said endorsed before. Doesnt God see the future?

@Emanstone “Mbaka is shamelessly trying frantically to redeem his battered prophecy image. He’s already tainted.”

@Madukovic “Even Father Mbaka has recanted. The coming days will be interesting in Nigeria.”

Department of State Security, DSS acting on presidential directives , mandated Ambassador Chris Giwa and his board to vacate the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and at the same time reinstated embattled Amaju Pinnick and his board. Following the directives, Amaju Pinnick now return as NFF president and other board as well as officials resumed office in their various capacities. General Secretary of the federation, Mohammed Sanusi who was sacked by the Chris Giwa board, said on return yesterday at the glass house that there was a presidential directive that mandated their resumption to office. Sanusi however urged all the staff to continue to discharge their duties without hindrance. The General Secretary who expressed happiness over the presidential directive told Sports writers that they would not be deterred or distracted by what has happened in the last few weeks. Pinnick who is also the Vice President of CAF was sacked by a court order that nullified his election as president. The Supreme Court order had ordered Chris Giwa to take the place of Pinnick as president of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF. As at the time of going to press yesterday, there was heavy presence of armed DSS operatives and around the premises of NFF. It could be recalled that Ambassador Chris Giwa and his board resumed at the glass house on July 5 following Supreme Court judgment. With the situation now on hand, it appears that the ruling of the Supreme Court has been set aside.

Saraki denies juicy offers from APC

$

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has said described the speculations about juicy offers being made to him and his associates as part of the on-going discussions with the Presidency and leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as untrue.

He said what is at stake is the future of the country and its democracy and that it will be myopic for anybody to be talking about whether certain offers have been made to an individual or if such offers would be accepted or not.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki stated that he saw some reports talking about promise of money or oil block and nomination tickets but added that those viewing the on-going development in that context are simply reducing a major national issue involving many key actors to that of personal benefits and preferences.

“I believe at this point, it is important for me to make some clarifications, end speculations and make my position clear. It is important for Nigerians to know that the discussions that I and many others of like minds are having with the Presidency and the leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, is not about me and what I want. It involves the future of our country and her democracy. It is about making things better for our people.

“Though there are many speculations being peddled in the media, let it be known these discussions are not about me. Whatever has happened to me in the past has passed. Now that God in his infinite mercy has vindicated me, I have moved on, believing that we have all learnt our lessons.

“As I said in my statement following the Supreme Court Judgement on July 6, I cannot hold any grudge against any individual. I have forgiven all those who played any role in my persecution and likewise, I have asked for forgiveness from all those that I wronged in the past. Our focus should now be about Nigeria. The major issue on the table for discussion is how to strengthen our democracy, rebuild our economy, stop the spate of insecurity, improve the conditions of living of our people and generally chart a course for the development of this great country.

“We will be insulting Nigerians if, as the 2019 elections draw nearer, our deliberations are about personal benefits or how to pay compensation for wrongs done to an individual.

“As for my political future, we just need to continue to engage with others, listen to advices and exchange ideas because the decision is not that of mine alone. It is for all our supporters and associates to deliberate upon and take a decision based on the overall interest of our people. It is my prayers that Almighty God will guide us right in all our decisions and make a positive turn-around in our country”, he stated.

A skill Acquisition centre built by the Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West Senatorial District in his country home, Ayetoro Gdede, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State has been vandalized by unknown hoodlums.

The National President of Ayetoro Gdede Development Association, AGDA, Elder Olorunfemi Ezekiel Adekunle disclosed this yesterday to journalists, saying that the dastardly act was carried out in the night when the centre was vandalized, as several attempts made to burn down the Skills Acquisition centre completely failed.

Elder Adekunle described the act as wicked and condemnable, stressing that the hoodlums who in their dark mind thought that they are destroying Senator Melaye by their action, forgotten that they are destroying the community assets.

He stated further that the community has officially reported the incident to the Nigeria Police operatives, having met brief the community Monarch, His Royal Highness, Oba Ehindero on the incident, over the need to stop further attack on the centre.

According to him, the service of Vigilantee has been engaged to watch over the skill centre, calling on the people of the area to report any suspicious movement to the community leaders and the police.

It could be recalled that last week, Senator Melaye’s constituency projects in Lokoja were also vandalizes by unknown people suspected to be sponsored political thugs.

In a swift reaction, senator Melaye said we Will Continue To Provide “Facilities; Defend and Protect them”, charging Kogi West Communities not to relent in their efforts in securing the projects in their enclave.

According to Gideon Ayodele the Media aide to Senator Dino Melaye, the incident will not discourage him from playing his role of facilitating projects to, even, the most remote parts of Kogi West.

The senator therefore charged the Communities to defend the water, electricity, schools, training/ Skill Acquisition Centres provided for them in their areas.

“On our part, every bit of our electioneering campaign promises shall be fulfilled. No harassment or intimidation can stop us. We will continue to promote peace and provide projects that brings development to our constituents”, he stressed.

PDP primaries: Crisis looms in Osun as Ogunbiyi rejects results …Vows to seek redress

Governorship aspirant under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi has rejected the results of the primary election of the party and vowed to use internal mechanism of the party to seek for immediate redress.

Stating his position on the outcome of the governorship primary election of the PDP, Ogunbiyi insisted that the votes attributed to him at the poll were much lower than the votes he actually garnered.

Ogunbiyi, stated this yesterday at his residence in Ile-Ogbo in Ayedire local government area of the state, insisting that the PDP has no governorship candidate yet.

The presiding officer of the election, governor Dickson Seriake of Bayelsa state at the said poll declared that Ogunbiyi polled 1, 562 votes and lost to Senator Ademola Adeleke who repeatedly polled 1,569 votes.

But, Ogunbiyi rejected the verdict, stating that, “the outcome of the primary election has been a subject of concern to a great majority of our party members who have been disappointed, disillusioned and confused by the conduct of the exercise and the results as declared by the Panel led by His Excellency, Governor Seriake Dickson.”

He added, “some of the major issues which compromised the integrity of the exercise and made the results clearly unacceptable include the non-adherence to the clear provisions of the Electoral Guidelines and unfortunate manipulation of the accreditation, voting, sorting and counting of the votes cast by delegates at the primaries.”

“Consequent upon these infractions therefore, the votes attributed to me at the end of the voting exercise were much lower than what I actually scored as valid votes. I have therefore resolved to use the internal mechanism of the party to seek an immediate redress of this clear case of injustice which is contrary to the spirit of transparency and justice being propagated by the new leadership of our party led by the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.”

“I assure you all that the mandate which was freely given to me by majority of the delegates will be reclaimed by the special grace of God.”

The aspirant thanked the leaders and members of the party who stood by him before, during and after the Primary elections. He also appreciated all co-aspirants who stepped down their individual ambitions to support him in clinching the PDP ticket and also extolled all delegates from the 332 wards in Osun state who participated in the election and expressed their clear preference for him as the person most suitable to fly the flag of the People’s Democratic Party in the governorship election.

Meanwhile, there was a spate of spontaneous protest on Monday over perceived electoral injustice against the leading governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, snow balling into full rally in which hundreds of party supporters and stakeholders stormed the Osun State secretariat Osogbo condemning last Saturday primaries.

Brandishing placards of different sizes amidst songs of political warfare chanted from one pole to the other, the protesters called on the party to redress the rigging perpetrated against Dr Ogunbiyi in the interest of internal democracy.

“Don’t play with fire, it’s Ogunbiyi we want, not a dancing senator,” they warned as they chorused militantly and defiantly.

Some of the inscriptions printed boldly on the motley coloured placards read: “Dickson betrayed Osun State PDP, please account for 186 votes belonging to Ogunbiyi.”

“Restore Ogunbiyi’s mandate as PDP candidate” “Ogunbiyi is our choice” and, “No to imposition” the placards read.

The protesters had besieged the party secretariat from their different local governments in the state driving into the venue with banner-bearing buses numbering over one hundred and calling on the national secretariat of the party to resolve the matter in favour of Ogunbiyi who they argued won last Saturday primaries.

No APGA ticket for nomadic politicians, says Udensi

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the forth coming 2019 election in Abia state, Chief Chikwe Udensi has said that APGA is not looking for people who will win election and defect but those who will win and stay to build the party.

Chief Udensi stated this at his Atani Arochukwu country home when he paid host to the Correspondents Chapel of Abia state Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists.

He noted that there is a new renaissance of South East people who want a party that they can identify as their own; noting that it is the advantage APGA has over others in Igbo land.

Udensi maintained that APGA won 2015 governorship election but was rigged out due to attitude of his kinsman, Alex Otti who was the governorship candidate of the party.

He revealed that in 2019 it is going to be a different ball game because APGA is going to field candidates who win election and stay and not those who will win and leave.

APGA guber hopeful accused his kinsman of abandoning the party immediately after the 2015 he was said to have been rigged out.

“I built APGA from 2010 to 2014 then Otti was in PDP but having seen he will not secured the party ticket he rushed back to APGA and connived with Victor Umeh, then National Chairman, and they played pranks on him to push him out of the party,” Udensi said.

He explained that now the election is around the corner, Otti is back to trenches and wanted to have guber ticket on gold platter.

He posited that his brother-opponent is said to be sponsoring fake rumour against him to the effect that the former governor of the state, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu is sponsoring his governorship ambition, insisting that there is no iota of truth to that effect.

Udensi, who was the governorship candidate of Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) in 2015, further disclosed that he and Dr Alex otti are kindred brothers from the same Ngodo Atani Arochukwu LGA and that why his kinsman is telling lies against him is because he does want to contest primaries.

He, howeve,r challenged him to a free and fair primaries stressing that there is no miracle that would save his brother from being defeated because out of the party delegates from 17 LGAs of the state, that he controls 14 out of them, leaving otti with a paltry only three LGAs.

“How can he make it when I am in control of Majority of delegates in the state and party leadership at the regional and national levels; let’s go for free and fair primaries, “Udensi challenged Otti.

Governor of Bayelsa, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson and chairman of the Osun State PDP Gubernatorial Primary Election has submitted the report of the exercise to the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.

The election which held on Saturday, July 21 in Oshogbo, the Osun State capital returned Senator Ademola Adeleke as the Guber Candidate for the September 22 election in the state.

Dickson said the primary election in Osun was the most keenly contested primary he has ever seen or heard of, and expressed confidence that if all the PDP leaders and stakeholders bury their differences and work together, the PDP will trounce the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

A press statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Francis Ottah Agbo noted that the Governor, flanked by former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliya, former Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe and other members of the Committee submitted the report to the National Chairman at the PDP National Secretariat on Monday, July, 23.

While receiving the report, Secondus commended Governor Dickson and his team for a transparent conduct of the Osun State primary election. He said the PDP under his watch will continue to expand the frontiers of internal democracy and assured all aspirants of a level playing field in all congresses

Meanwhile, Dickson has commiserated with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris on the death of former IGP, Ibrahim Coomassie.

The Governor said the late IGP was one of the finest in the history of policing. While praying God for the repose of his soul, Governor Dickson who himself was a Police Officer, also prayed God to give the police and his family the fortitude to bear the loss which he said is clearly irredeemable.

A press statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Francis Ottah Agbo quoted Dickson as having made the remarks today, July, 23, 2018 when he paid a condolence visit on Idris at Force headquarters, Abuja. Coomassie was IGP between 1993 and 1999. The IGP thanked Governor Dickson for the visit and commended him for being a good Ambassador of the Nigeria Police.

APC, PDP are the same, harbingers of corruption – ANRP

In reaction to the defection of 15 Senators of the All Progressives Congress, APC to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the Senate Chamber yesterday, National Chairman and Presidential candidate, Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party, ANRP, Tope Fasua said he was not in anyway surprised by the development, as both APC and PDP are the same thing.

In a chat with Nigerian Pilot, Fasua said; i am not surprised. “The two so called political parties APC and PDP are one and the same and should eventually be proscribed for being harbingers of corruption, waste, backwardness, underdevelopment and everything bad.
“The people there simply flow to where money is. No ideology. No philosophy. No conscience. I am largely unconcerned”.

The ANRP Chairman stated further that, cross carpeting at will is a clear indication that those politicians are bereft of ideas, “they lack ideology and the basis is money. That’s why a purpose driven party like ours came on board in order to correct all these anomalies.”
In his own reaction, National Spokesman of the party Sesugh Akume stated that our politicians have no shame. No principles. No values. No patriotism. For them it’s all about self, self-interest, being self-centered, and self-serving.

Their ideology is thus defined, centred on primitivity, consumption driven by a transactional mindset that only asks ‘What’s in it for me?’
“The fluidity of crossing from PDP to APC and vice versa and repeating the process only attests to the fact that both are essentially one and the same thing, their only difference is their acronyms but essentially one thing driven by the same greed and self-serving interests”.
That’s why our party agree with citizens who say ‘Red Card to APC and PDP’, the same set of recycled politicians.

Nigerians can see for themselves that all what these people fight for is for themselves and their self preservation. It means nothing to them that we’re the world’s poverty capital with the largest number and largest percentage of people in extreme poverty, more than China and India which have over a billion people each.

It means nothing if we all are killed, they carry about police escorts so won’t be killed easily, they drive sturdy SUVs (financed from the public treasury) so won’t feel the effect of terrible roads, have connections to give their own children notes to get jobs so unemployment and underemployed means nothing to them.

Akume speaking further said; “SARS can kill all of us, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that they position themselves to keep to the raw power that they perennially abuse.
“It’s time for Nigerians to be wise and sensitive to do away with these recycled politicians, and look at credible alternatives. Else things can only get worse”, he added.

HURIWA to Buhari: Stop Police; EFCC; DSS from destroying democracy

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to resists the temptation of deploying armed security forces to scuttle legislative independence.

Reacting to the reported invasions of the private residences of Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki by armed police operatives and the deputy senate president Professor Ike Ekweremadu by combined teams of DSS, police and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), HURIWA urged the President to endeavor to act as a statesman so generations yet unborn will not know him for evil.

HURIWA in the statement by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf also urged the senators and Nigerians to defend democracy and prevent the executive arm of government from destabilizing the National Assembly.

Reminding the President that he is obliged by his oath of office to bear true allegiance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, HURIWA affirmed that it was illegal to deploy armed security forces to physically restrain principal officers of an arm of government from accessing their offices with a sinister plot to instigate internal rebellion leading to possible regime change in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

It cited copiously from the Constitution to affirm that it was unconstitutional to use the force of arm and coercion to stop Senate leaders from enjoying their constitutional freedoms as enshrined in Section 35 (1), 36 (1)and 40 of the constitution.

“We view the illegal manipulations of all arms of the security forces including the anti-graft body by the presidency against the current hierarchy of the National Assembly to achieve pre-determined political objective of change of leadership by unconstitutional means as a major and indeed a fundamental threat to constitutional democracy.”

“The ignominious role of the current Inspector General of police Alhaji Ibrahim Kpodum Idriss to slavishly use his armed operatives to harass, intimidate and attempt to rope in the person of the Senate President into the Offa Bank robbery as very disingenuous, despicable and reprehensible.

“We call on the international community and world leaders to call President Muhammadu Buhari to order in other that he will not let his over ambition to return for a second term make him to manipulate security forces to crumble the democracy that we all fought very hard to institutionalize.”

“May we inform the Senators and Nigerians that the constitutionally guaranteed principle of separation of powers as unambiguously provided for in sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Nigerian constitution is the beauty of democracy and the moment this independence of both the legislature and judiciary is emasculated and muzzled by the executive arm of government, that illegality will signal the demise of democracy.”
