A 29-year-old man has been nabbed by the Lagos state police operatives, for allegedly trying to kill his mother for his cyber fraud business (yahoo plus).

According to report, the incident took place at No.2 Raji Ajanaku street, Alaja Road, Ayobo, inside the flat the suspect, Taiwo Akinola, 29, lives with his mother, Mrs Alice Iyabo Akinola, and her grandchild, Master Faruk, age 14 years.

Further report stated that Taiwo, said to be staunch member of the notorious Aiye confraternity, went to the victim’s provision store in front of their apartment and told his mother to meet him inside the house for an important discussion, and at same time sent his nephew, Faruk. to go buy him a white handkerchief and a stick of cigarette.

As soon as the victim entered the house, the suspect attacked her, smashing her head with a plank, pressing iron and a UPS charger, to ensure she didn’t survive the ferocious attack.

When Faruk returned from the errand, he didn’t see his grandmother in the shop, so he went into the house only to see the poor woman lying in a pool of blood. Shocked by what he saw, the small boy raised the alarm which attracted neighbours to the scene.

The police was however informed and Taiwo promptly arrested.

The victim was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and is said to be hanging onto life.

During a brief interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he was asked to kill his mother in order to have more money. When his room was searched, the following exhibits were recovered:

Two calabashes with one containing human skull and the other, a mixture of dark concoction; a plank perforated with nails and stained with blood; a pressing iron stained with blood; a white handkerchief with which he wanted to scoop the victim’s blood; a bottle containing oil and labelled “Back To Sender.”+

2019 Election: APC slams Saraki over his presidential ambition, lists corruption charges

The All Progressives Congress (APC) slammed the Senate President, Bukola Saraki over his ‘2019 presidential ambition’, while listing corruption charges leveled against him.

Yekini Nabena, APC National Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Monday, said Saraki cannot pass integrity and anti-corruption test.

He said: “In a recent interview with the international news organization, Bloomberg, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki unsurprisingly declared his intention to contest the 2019 Presidency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Against the backdrop of the litany of corruption allegations trailing the Senate President, Saraki’s declaration, brings to the fore our earlier call to anti-graft agencies to check the use of stolen public funds to finance elections in this country. We reiterate our position that the Nigerian electorate must have the opportunity to choose from candidates that can pass the integrity and anti-corruption test.

“Let us refresh our memory on some of Saraki’s corruption allegations: Allegations of fraud which led to the collapse of the Saraki family-owned Société Générale Bank (Bukola Saraki who was Director of the defunct bank was indicted over N1bn alleged to have been looted from the bank’s treasury).

“Misappropriation of Kwara State funds, disregard of government due process and conversion of State government assets into his and cronies when he served as two-term governor of Kwara State.

“History of betrayals, treachery and sabotage – Family, political party (PDP, APC), Senate, government.
Saraki was questioned by the Nigeria Police Special Fraud Unit over an N11 billion financial scandal at the defunct Intercontinental Bank.

“Gluttonous property acquisitions and hidden multi-billion dollar assets spread across the world as disclosed by the Panama Papers revelations.
The multi-million dollar white elephant Shonga Agricultural Project in Kwara State when Saraki served as two-term governor.

“Falsification of Senate standing order: Saraki’s link to the N298m armoured Range Rover SUV seized by the Nigeria Customs Service.

“Saraki is link to $19.5b Paris Club Loan refund scandal, he oversaw budget padding in the National Assembly
among other numerous corruption scandals.

“Nigerians should be wary of a man whose personal ambition will always supersede the interest of the majority and national interest as currently displayed in the National Assembly.

“While Saraki refuses to reconvene the National Assembly, the 2019 election budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is dangerously delayed, an action deliberately taken to sabotage INEC’s ability to conduct free, fair, transparent and credible elections in 2019.

“While Saraki refuses to step down as Senate President as rightly and severally demanded by the APC-dominated Senate, he is bent on foisting a PDP-minority rule (Senate President and Deputy Senate President) in the Upper Legislative House

“The only politics that Bukola Saraki plays is self, himself only and only himself. The interest and welfare of the people of Nigeria do not mean anything to him. Now it is the Presidency Saraki wants.

“And we ask with what antecedents is he doing this? Conspiracy, blackmail, treachery and vaulting ambition which over leaps itself and falls on the other, as rightly captured by William Shakespeare. Bukola Saraki will rather rule in hell than serve in paradise.

“Ahead of 2019 elections, Nigerians must ensure that we never again entrust the leadership of this great country to thieves whose sole aim is treasury looting and returning us to the dark ages where impunity and institutionalized corruption was the order of the day.”

World Football Governing Body, FIFA have suspended it plan to ban Nigeria following Federal Government intervention in the leadership crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

The Federal Government conveyed to FIFA a letter recognising Amaju Pinnick-led Nigeria Football Federation, NFF as the substantive board of the federation for now pending the resolution of the crisis rocking the football house.

FIFA in its website on the  situation of the Nigeria Football Federation said,‘’Following the decision of the Bureau of the FIFA Council of 13 August 2018 concerning the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, FIFA received confirmations that the legitimate leadership of the NFF under President Amaju Melvin Pinnick and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi has been given back effective control of the NFF and its offices.

In view of these circumstances, FIFA deems that the conditions set by the decision of the Bureau of the FIFA Council have now been met and consequently the suspension of the NFF will not take effect.

FIFA will continue to closely monitor the situation in order to ensure that FIFA’s rules and regulations are fully adhered to.

The Federal government move according to  Nigerian Pilot Sports source  is not only to avert the possible ban by FIFA, but  for the fact that Pinnick and his board’s tenure ends in September.

Nigerian Pilot Sports gathered that, Laolu Akande, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday said in his tweeted account that Pinnick-led NFF was the current and only executive committee and noted that the Federal Government would continue with all relevant stakeholders to resolve dispute in a timely manner.

According to him, the Federal Government is upholding NFF treaty obligations to FIFA.

It could be recalled that the Chris Giwa-led NFF assumed office on July 2, following a court order that validated his election and nullified that of Pinnick.

However, on July 23, the Giwa-led board was sacked by men of the DSS following a presidential directive.

FIFA had given Monday August 20, (yesterday) as deadline for Nigeria to resolve the leadership dispute.

Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has concluded plans to host major National Referee workshops in both Kyeorugi and Poomsae, between October 1 and 3, just before the prestigious 9th Korea Ambassador Cup, KAC.

The trainings which are targeted to churn out over 100 taekwondo Referees by 2019 based on recent update in competition rules by the World Taekwondo,WT body and new technology would enable them familiarize themselves with the latest rules before the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, NTF ranked taekwondo event of this year’s National Sports Festival, NSF scheduled to hold in Abuja.

NTF President, Mrs Margaret Binga, a WT certified Referee who is already billed for two more refresher courses in Egypt and Dubai before the National Referee course takes place, explained that the focus of the current taekwondo leadership in Nigeria was to train and parade quality Referees at national events

“Bad officiating ensures that good talent and athletes lose out unfairly and the national teams will then end up with second-choice competitors. This is why the Federation is eager to ensure that our referees are up to date long before the National Sports Festival through this national referee workshop which would have an impact on selections ahead of the 2019 All African Games.

“Our goal is to have 100 new referees by the end of 2019. We have 32 new referees that attended the last workshop in 2017 and we hope to have some new referees join next month during the workshop. We also increased the mandatory daily allowances for Referees to encourage them in their chosen career.”

Chairman of the NTF Referee Department, Mrs Winfred Eleri, assured that NTF Referees will be ushered into an era that ensures career progression and development.

Participants from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory will be expected to attend the world-class Referee course expected to feature international referees that will be flown in to conduct the workshop.

‎Justice Babatunde Quadri, another vacation Judge who had earlier handled the matter, summoned the EFCC to come to court and explain it’s action.

In a short ruling, Justice Dimgba, ordered parties “Not to take any further steps so as not to destroy the res, which is the subject matter before the court, pending the determination of the originating summons adjourned to August 29, 2018.”

Issues brought before the court for determination are; “whether by virtue of sections 6, 7 and 38(1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Act 2004, or any other law, the EFCC or any other body, authority or person beyond the Benue State House of Assembly and the Auditor- General, Benue State (4th and 5th respondents), has the power to investigate or inquire into the accounts and /or appropriations, disbursements and administration of the funds of Benue State Government having regard to the clear provisions of sections 1(1) and (3), 125(2),(4) and (6), 128 and 129 of the 1999 constitution.

“Whether in the absence of any resolution duly passed by the Benue State House of Assembly authorising the EFCC or any other body, authority or person to investigate and/or inquire into the accounts or appropriations, disbursements and administration of the funds of Benue State Government, the EFCC or any other body, authority or person can lawfully and constitutionally embark on such exercise without breaching the clear provisions of Sections 1 (1) and (3), 125(2), (4) and (6), 128 and 129 of the Constitution.

“Whether the continued invitations of Officials of Benue State Government, investigations and/or inquisitions into the accounts and/or appropriations, disbursements and administration of the funds of Benue State Government by the EFCC or any other body, authority or person under any guise having regard to Sections 1(1) and (3), 125(2), (4) and (6), 128 and 129 of the Constitution do not negate the Doctrine of Separation of Powers as enshrined under Sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Constitution.

Eid-el-kabir: IPAC calls for unity of purpose among politicians

Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has emphasized the need for political leaders to shun selfish quest for power, but to unite over the sustenance of Project Nigeria by ensuring that the country remains stronger and more united during and after the 2019 general elections.

The Chairman of IPAC, Muhammad Lawal Nalado, made this advocacy in a sallah message he gave to Nigerians in Abuja, to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, where he pointed out the needs for political stakeholders to play by the rules of the game by avoiding the tendencies to will at all cost.

“This Eid-el-Kabir offers us another opportunity to pray for peace and unity of Nigeria, as the 2019 general elections approach, we owe it a duty as political leaders and citizens, to work in the direction of promoting free and fair elections, in which the trustworthy leaders will emerge to lead country.

“Nigeria is again at a critical stage in her democratic journey, therefore as muslim umah, we must seize the opportunity of this year’s Arafat to pray to Allah for a sustainable and peaceful general election next year, and also for economic and social development of the country”, Nalado said.

He added that IPAC, being the umbrella body of all the political parties registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the body will continue to engage in advocacy campaign aimed at ensuring that the democratic governance in Nigeria is sustained.

The IPAC boss, while welcoming on board the twenty three newly registered political parties, reiterated the need for leaders of political parties to enthrone internal party democracy in choosing their candidates for elective posts, as he said this is one sure way to sustain peace and confidence of party members.

“Our country is passing through a difficult stage of national development, this is as a result of economic challenges, rising insecurity and threat to our corporate existence as a nation resulting from uncertain political atmosphere due to actions of some selfish politicians.

“It is therefore not only advisable but necessary that we offer prayers for our nation to overcome these challenges, and we as citizens should rededicate ourselves to the service of our country”, he said, pointing out that praying for the nation is akin to praying for the actualization of one’s individual needs and aspirations.

Nevertheless, he charged Nigerians, irrespective of their fate, to continue to tolerate the religious and cultural differences of one another, and to continue to live in peace with each other, urging them to pray for their leaders that God will give them the wisdom and good health to administer the country.

Usoro emerges NBA president

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) yesterday declared a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Paul Usoro winner of NBA presidential election.

The election was held by electronic voting from Saturday to Sunday. The result was announced in the early hours of yesterday.

Usoro polled 4,509 votes to beat Chief Arthur Obi Okafor (SAN), who scored 4,423 votes and Prof Ernest Ojukwu (SAN), who got 3,313 votes.

Stanley Chidozie won the race for First Vice President with 6,188 votes, while Dada Olayemi was elected Second Vice President with 4,242 votes.

Taidi Gunu won the post of General Secretary with 3,574 votes, beating Mobolaji Idris who polled 1,993 votes and Balogun Oyeyemi who got 1,630 votes.

Okafor and Ojukwu have, however, faulted the result, insisting that the election was rigged.

In a letter to the outgoing NBA president Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), Okafor rejected the result and called for a post-election audit.

He said: “I participated in the aforesaid election to conclusion. It is in my candid view that the election was rigged by which I was denied victory.

“In the course of the election, my team made complaints of obvious malpractices including harvesting of voters’ details using some funny email domains. These complaints were not attended to.

“I do hereby reject the result of the elections. Whilst considering various options open to me, I call for a participatory post-election audit of both the verification process and voting.”

Ojukwu, a former Law School Deputy Director-General, claimed that he contested against corruption, rigging and a skewed process, but said he would not challenge the result.

In a message to his supporters, he said: “Though a winner has emerged from this present contest, remember that we contested against corruption, massive vote buying, vote capture, rigging and a skewed process.

“These reasons make a challenge of the result important but because of my long and selfless commitment to regenerating the Bar, and the need not create tension in our legal profession, I shall not contest it.”

Praising his supporters for their efforts, Ojukwu said they sacrificed so much to alter the destiny and fate of the legal profession and their country Nigeria.

“Regrettably the outcome of our efforts has not been pleasant. I plead with you not to lose hope. With the kind of passion you have and expressed in various actions recently to create a bar of our dream, our destiny is still in your hands.

“Keep moving on the task of setting a new bar. The Bar is yours. It is your right to have the kind of Bar you desire. It is also your responsibility.

“Just note that though we could not effectively commence the journey to reform and transform the Bar now, time is still on your side to make that difference in your life time.

“Do not surrender to a dirty system and fall of our profession. Continue to do your best to help clean it up and set a new bar that would be relevant to all,” Ojukwu said.

A professor of law and former National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairman Chidi Odinkalu described the election as a “messy racket” and a “disgrace”.

He said in a statement: “This was not an election. It was not even a selection. It was a racket and a messed up one at that.

“Now, they will ask the NBA National Executive Committee to make this messed up racket their own and ratify it at the pre-conference NEC. That will be interesting. This racket is a disgrace.

“The process was compromised and did not even pretend about it. The outcome lacks legitimacy and the declared winner has procured a compromised non-mandate.

“Those who hope or expect that there will be an audit should come off that kind of hallucination – you don’t ask a burglar to investigate the burglary.

“The outgoing Bar leadership is incredibly tarnished by its role in this messy racket. Yet, we are unlikely to learn.

“There are no plaudits to hand out, no congratulations to anyone and no one comes out of this a winner.”

UK based Nigerian paid £2million to blackmail military, group alleges

A civil society group under the auspices Coalition of Arewa CSO for Progress and Change, yesterday cried out over the activities of one Dr. Idris Ahmed of the Citizens United for Peace and Security (CUPS) organization, based in the United Kingdom has received Two Million Great Britain Pounds to undermine Nigeria’s national security.

The Arewa group said Ahmed has been paid over 1billion naira by enemies of the Nigerian State to blackmail the military.

Jacob Ogwuche, National President of the Coalition made this shocking revelation at a news conference in Abuja.

According to Ogwuche, the coalition is fully aware of the plot to discredit the Nigeria Military by some unscrupulous persons who have seen a willing tool in Ahmed and CUPS for the propagation of the campaign of defamation.

He said, “We are also aware that Dr. Idris Ahmed and his CUPS organization is heavily funded by some categories of people highlighted below: Political Office Holders indicted for acts of corruption, The Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Defectors to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , and some Disgruntled People in Government.

“While we might not want to join issues with Dr. Idris Ahmed in his ill-conceived agenda, we are constrained to put the issues in proper perspective.

“Dr. Idris Ahmed is heavily funded to sustain the attack on the Nigeria Military through his CUPS organization supposedly based in the United Kingdom.

“In times past, he has boasted to all and sundry that he has overwhelming evidence against the military and corrupt acts being perpetrated by officers, but unfortunately, he has been unable to author a single petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“The curious aspect of his activities is that he is now practicing the whistle blowing policy on Facebook, calling members of the public to furnish him with evidence against any military officers in return for a cash reward.

“In one of such posts on Facebook, he stated thus “We at CUPS are patriotic Nigerians. We are determined to save Nigeria and Nigerians from peril, by whatever lawful means. We have no fear of anyone who is corrupt, no matter what their position is in human society. To this end, we are at this moment offering an immediate cash reward of N10, 000 to anyone who furnishes us with authentic information that could be used to prosecute any corrupt military officer. We have put aside the sum of N1, 000, 0000 (1 million Naira) for this project.”

“While we find this curious, to say the least, we are appalled by the sudden turnaround by the so-called agent of anti-corruption who once boasted that he has overwhelming evidence of acts of corruption against military officers.

“We find such doublespeak signs of a man that is eager to misinform the general public in return for financial rewards; we also frown at the fact that most social media platforms such as Facebook had become mediums with which acts of terrorism are carried out due to the convenience, affordability, and its broad reach.

“It is also instructive to state Dr. Idris Ahmed recently took another wife from funds he received from his paymasters to destabilize the government by deliberately spreading falsehood.

“We are constrained to state that if measures are not put in place by Facebook to block the account of Dr. Idris Ahmed from spreading falsehood and encouraging acts of terrorism in Nigeria, we might muster concerned Nigerians to sue Facebook in a court of competent Jurisdiction.

How Ahmed Idris is being funded to tarnish the image of the Nigerian Military is attachee below:

1. Political officers that were compulsorily retired = N50million.

2. IMN = N250million.

3. Defectors to PDP = N500million.

4. Disgruntled elements in government = N25million.

Sallah: Saraki, Ekweremadu task Nigerians on 2019, peaceful co-existence

As Muslims celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival today, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu have urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of brotherhood and peaceful co-existence in their relationship during Sallah celebration and beyond.

In their separate Sallah message to Muslim faithful in the country, they particularly called on the Muslim Umah to work and pray towards the peaceful and successful conduct of the 2019 general elections.

Saraki, in his own message signed by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Alhaji Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja, enjoined Nigerians to increase their efforts in charitable endeavours, perseverance and spiritual intercession for the nation.

The senate president urged Nigerians to further devote their prayers at the Eid praying grounds to the call on Allah to restore peace in all parts of the country, strengthen the unity and rebuild the economy.

Saraki also congratulated Muslims on the celebration of the 2018 Eid el-Kabir festival and described the special occasion as “a period that honours the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son to show submission to Allah’s command”.

“As we have read from the Glorious Qur’an, just when Ibrahim was about to kill his son Ishmael, Almighty Allah (SWT) put a sheep in its place. Muslims use Eid el-Kabir to celebrate Prophet Ibrahim’s complete obedience to the will of Allah and as a reminder of our own willingness to make sacrifices in obedience to Allah”, he stated.

In his own, the deputy senate president called on the Muslim Umah to work and pray towards the peaceful and successful conduct of the 2019 general elections, noting that developments in recent elections in parts of the country were bad omens for 2019 general elections.

Ekweremadu also called on Nigerians to emulate Prophet Ibrahim’s life of total obedience, love, justice, and self-sacrifice, which he described as the hallmarks of Eid-el Kabir.

He made the calls in a goodwill message to the Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el Kabir,

The deputy senate president observed in his own statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Uche Anichukwu, said that only such virtues as exhibited by Prophet Ibrahim could take Nigeria to the Promised Land.

Ekweremadu said: “The Eid-el Kabir presents yet another opportunity for the Muslim Umahand indeed all Nigerians to reflect soberly on state of the nation and pray for Nigeria’s future and peaceful elections.

“Importantly, Nigeria is certainly in need of both attitudinal change and divine intervention as the country prepares for the 2019 general elections.

“Whereas the extensive electoral reforms carried out by the National Assembly manifested in visible improvements in the quality of the 2011 and 2015 general elections, subsequent elections have been gravely marred by excessive violence, vote buying, and other outrageous manipulations that threaten our democracy.

“From the Bayelsa governorship election to the recent bye-elections in Kogi and Rivers States, among others, the nation has witnessed intolerable levels of impunity, violence, excessive abuse and manipulation of vital institutions of democracy, which signal grave turbulence ahead of 2019”.

KINSMEN of Senator George Akume from Jemgbagh political axis, comprising Gboko, Buruku and Tarka have pledged their unalloyed support to Governor Samuel Ortom ahead of the 2019 elections.

This was disclosed by Mr Sam Tsumba, leader of Jemgbagh Elders Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP during a solidarity in Government House Makurdi yesterday to welcome the governor back to PDP.

Tsumba expressed the readiness of Jemgbah to stand behind the governor owing to his laudable performance in office, stressing that the appointment of many of their sons into key positions including Professor Anthony Ijohor, SAN, as SSG and acting Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue Service, Mr Terzunwe Atser would go a long way to garner support for him.

Others who spoke including elders Tarhule Nev, Ikyume Yongu and Mbakorlumun Chia for Buruku, Gboko and Tarka respectively, said they were solidly behind Governor Ortom whose leadership they said have provided purposeful leadership for Benue people.

On his part, a chieftain of the PDP in the state, Prince Yandev Amaabai said the party was lucky to have a ‘prodigal son’ who was pushed out of his father’s house empty handed only to return with much wealth.

The elders collectively acknowledged that the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law is a landmark which they said has helped in no small measure in ending the activities of militia herdsmen in the state.

They vowed to recall any of their representatives in the State Assembly who is involved in the illegal impeachment move against Governor Samuel Ortom.

Responding, Governor Ortom expressed appreciation to the people of Jemgbagh for their show of solidarity, pledging that he would continue to work with them to salvage the state.

He noted that impunity should not be allowed to continue to rear its ugly head in the country, stressing that allegation of embezzlement of public funds were ridiculous and those behind such would be put to shame.

The governor commended members representing Buruku and Gboko East constituencies in the State Assembly, Mrs. Ngunan Adingi and Ngohemba Agaigbe for their steadfastness in the face of monetary inducements, describing them as worthy ambassadors of women.

Secretary to the State Government, Professor Anthony Ijohor, SAN, on behalf of government appointees from Jemgbagh, pledged total loyalty to the administration of Governor Ortom.

“We just had two and half hour meeting with the President, we reviewed the security situation across the country in all the geopolitical zones. We made all our comments; especially the new operations in Benue, Zamfara, Taraba, Operation Whirlstroke and Operation Saradaji.

“We gave the extent of successes in these operations and we are to continue in this line of action in these operations. All the operations were reviewed and all the issues concerning the operations were dealt with.

“He directed that we should continue to step up our game to ensure that the nation is safe and people go about their daily activities in a very safe manner”, Olonisakin explained.

In his speech, the Minister of Defence, Dan Ali Monsur, said the meeting was a normal routine security briefing with the president adding that it was an update on what transpired when the President was away.

“We have seen that there is a lot of improvement in the security situation in the country, especially in Zamfara and Benue States and in the Niger Delta.

“In the North-East, we are having a worrisome report; we have looked into it critically and we have taken an absolute decision,’’ he said.

Other service chiefs at the meeting were Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Theophilus Buratai, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ebok Ibas and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

Akwa Ibom state Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has threatened to expose the ills of his predecessor and former Senate Minority Leader, Chief Godswill Akpabio if provoked.

This is even as a factional state chairman of APC, Dr Udoma Ekarika, his deputy Mr Emmanuel Udoh and other prominent members of the party yesterday defected to the PDP

Emmanuel who made the threat yesterday at a reception for him by the people of Eket Senatorial district in ONNA said he could be forced to break his silence on the administration of the former governor if Akpabio and the APC continue to make unfounded and baseless allegations against him and his administration

“There is a difference between falsehood, truth and facts but I will not delve into falsehood because I have the facts. I have been silent all these while but could open up and let’s see who will tell the truth” The Governor threatened.

Emmanuel said he remained committed to the Akwa Ibom project and would continue to work towards the unity, development and prosperity of the state.

The Governor stated that he would not be frustrated in the development of the Ibaka Seaport as a strategic facility for the economic development of the state adding that his achievements in health, education, sports and roads were not for politics but for prosperity.

He also announced that he would formally declare to run for a second time as governor on Friday even as his scorecard would be made known that day.

Ekarika who defected alongside the DG of the APC governorship campaign organisation Mr Sony Udom described the APC in the state as disorganized adding that he was defecting with the only reasonable people in the party to the PDP.

“APC in the state is dominated by bad people and so I decided to bring out the few good people and all of us have now joined the PDP. We are ready to work for the good of our state with Governor Emmanuel.

“From my interaction with the Governor I have discovered that he is a good material. Emmanuel is a material and is good enough enough for us. We don’t want any other person for now.” He said.

FACE Off : Tinubu, Saraki in war of words over defection

Tinubu, Saraki in war of words over defection

“Saraki has been more focused on changing the rules of the Senate to favour himself and changing the order of elections so as to coincide with his selfish designs”. Tinubu

“I respect Tinubu but I will not allow him to create a wrong, false and mischievous impression about the reasons for my decision to exit the APC and present his prejudices as facts for public consumption.” Saraki

Since his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki has been in a running battle to retain his seat as the leadership of APC is bent on pushing him out of that exalted position.

Saraki has been called names and accused of so many wrong doings especially by the national chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who had at various occasions called Saraki unprintable names blaming him for not helping the party achieve its campaign promises as the nation’s number three man.

In a statement at the weekend, APC leader, Ahmed Bola Tinubu took Saraki to the cleaners saying that he and his co travelers such as the Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwa left the party for their personal ambitions and not in the interest of Nigerians as they claimed.

But Saraki quickly responded declaring that though he has great respect for Tinubu, he would not allow him to create a wrong, false and mischievous impression about the reasons for his decision to exit the All Progressives Congress (APC) and present his prejudices as facts for public consumption.

The Senate President accused Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of still remaining in APC because of his ambition of succeeding President Muhammedu Buhari explaining that Tinubu is fighting him because he stood against his ambition of having a Muslim Muslim ticket in 2015 and making himself vice president

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuf Olaniyon Saraki said he didn’t want to join issues with Tinubu but was forced to reply him to set records straight.

“I have always restrained from joining issues in the media with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and this is based on my respect for him. However, I will not allow him to create a wrong, false and mischievous impression about the reasons for my decision to exit the All Progressives Congress (APC) and present his prejudices as facts for public consumption”, he said.

“I have been consistent in my complaints to all leaders of the APC, including Tinubu, that a situation where the National Assembly is not constructively engaged or carried along in key policy decisions, particularly those that will eventually require legislative approval, is not in the best interest of the nation.

“No genuine leader of the legislature will be comfortable that the Presidency will simply write a terse letter to the National Assembly on key issues which the federal legislature is expected to later deliberate upon and give its approval. The Buhari administration consistently treats the legislature with contempt and act as if the law making body should be an appendage of the Executive. To me, that is unacceptable.

“In the same way, I find it very objectionable that many stakeholders who worked strenuously to get the administration into office have now been excluded in the government and not consulted on key decisions as necessary and expected. In fact, some of them are treated as pariah. A party which ignores justice, equity and inclusion as basic pre-condition for peace, unity and stability cannot sustain its membership and leadership.

“Let me redirect the attention of the former Governor of Lagos State to the aspect of my July 31, 2018, statement announcing my exit from APC in which I emphasized that the decision “has been inescapably imposed on me by certain elements and forces within the APC who have ensured that the minimum conditions for peace, cooperation, inclusion and a general sense of belonging did not exist.

“ln that statement, I further noted that those APC elements “have done everything to ensure that the basic rules of party administration, which should promote harmonious relations among the various elements within the party were blatantly disregarded. All governance principles which were required for a healthy functioning of the party and the government were deliberately violated or undermined.

“And all entreaties for justice, equity and fairness as basic precondition for peace and unity, not only within the party, but also the country at large, were simply ignored, or employed as additional pretext for further exclusion. The experience of my people and associates in the past three years is that they have suffered alienation and have been treated as outsiders in their own party.

“Thus, many have become disaffected and disenchanted. At the same time, opportunities to seek redress and correct these anomalies were deliberately blocked as a government-within-a-government had formed an impregnable wall and left in the cold, everyone else who was not recognized as “one of us”. This is why my people, like all self-respecting people would do, decided to seek accommodation elsewhere”, the Senate President stated.

However, on his part, Tinubu maintained that the efectors who dumped the All Progressives Congress left because the party could not offer them what they wanted

In a statement he personally signed, the APC leader said the defectors wanted automatic tickets and sharing of the national wealth which the governing APC could not guarantee.

According to him, the defectors “left the party to return to a motley agglomeration that would promise them what true democracy could not: automatic tickets, sharing of the national wealth and other offices and privileges

“Nigeria is undergoing a historic transition. Sometimes awkwardly, tentatively, yet inexorably, we nurture political and governance reform. We steadily close the door on the old malpractices that have caused a rich nation to reside in the tenement of the global poor”, he noted.

He attributed Tambuwal’s defection to his presidential ambition which he would not be able to actualise in APC saying “Governor Tambuwal’s exit can be distilled to one cause. He covets the presidency. However, he had not the stomach to challenge President Buhari in a primary. Tambuwal felt further insulted that he would be compelled to face a direct primary just to retain the governorship nomination.

“But for the promise made by PDP headliners like Rivers State Governor Wike that he would have the PDP presidential nomination, Tambuwal would not have left. His exit had nothing to do with governance of the nation. It was about forging a personal ambition predicated on the defeat of progressive reform not the advancement of it”, he added.

Mr Tambuwal last week said he was under pressure from some leaders in and outside Nigeria to run for the presidency.

On Saraki, Tinubu said returning to the PDP, he harbors dreams of the presidency but Tambuwal’s ambition will dwarf Saraki’s when the two collide. If Saraki had remained in the APC, he would be unable to reclaim his Senate seat let alone the Senate Presidency. He thus bolted because he lusts for the presidency but was promised by the PDP, at least, a return to his position in the Senate.

“For Saraki to talk about lack of governance is for him to deny who he is and the position he holds. This man stands as Nigeria’s Number 3 citizen. Clothed is he in ample power and influence. If he saw areas where government and the nation needed help, he could have easily applied his energies to these areas. He could have drafted legislation and easily got laws passed.

“However, no progressive enactment bears his name for he cared not for progress. He has been more focused on changing the rules of the Senate to favour himself and changing the order of elections so as to coincide with his selfish designs”, he added.

He maintained that other defectors were given assurances on their ambitions, a step the APC refused to take. Mr Tinubu said the party is better off with the exit of the defector

“The rest of the defectors were given similar assurances by the PDP as to their offices. The APC refused to make such bargains as they are part of the ancient regime; these bargains are not of our democratic new way.

“There is nothing wrong with ambition. Without a degree of ambition, we would never strive to improve and develop ourselves. But ambition, restrained by nothing but itself, is a dangerous commodity. Unwedded to social conscience, it leads to ruthlessness; it is the father of the deception that leaders are meant to lord over instead of to serve the populace”, the APC leader concluded.

Premier League speaks on illegal football live streaming

The Premier League plans to take legal action against the illegal footbal live streaming channels that has broadcast every game of the season so far.

It is the latest sporting organisation to condemn the BeoutQ channel, after Fifa, Uefa, Formula 1 and World Tennis all took a stand against the “industrial scale” illegal live streaming.

BeoutQ has been broadcasting live sporting events since 2017, after a diplomatic dispute in the Middle East saw Saudi Arabia cut trade ties with Qatar.

The broadcasting rights for the Premier League across the Middle East and North Africa are owned by BeIN Media, a Doha-based network.

Several nations in the region cut trade ties with Qatar over the country’s alleged financing of terrorism. This has fuelled the rise of BeoutQ, which has grown to 10 different channels since broadcasting last year.

The use of satellite broadcasting technology, set-top boxes, and overlaid commentary has led BeIN Media to describe BeoutQ as “the most widespread piracy of sports broadcasting that the world has ever seen.”

Tom Keaveny, managing director of BeIN Media Group, said: “The political games played by Arabsat, BeoutQ and its Saudi backers in stealing our content have consequences that affect the future of world sport, not just BeIN Sports. That is why the international sports community… have all take a stand and publicly condemned this Saudi-based piracy.”

The Premier League has appointed legal counsel in Saudi Arabia in an effort to bring legal action against BeoutQ, with the hope that the country’s copyright framework will uphold its rights.

“The Premier League has written to the European Commission as part of the Sports Rights Owners Coalition. This is just one of the measures we are taking to address this very serious issue,” a spokesperson for the Premier League said on Tuesday, 21 August.

“We operate a significant anti-piracy programme in a range of countries to protect the copyright of the League and our clubs. Like all content creators and rights owners, our business model is predicated on the ability to market and sell protected rights and we will take all available action to support the investment made in the League by our legitimate broadcast partners.”

Last week, the top football division in France, Ligue 1, also criticised BeoutQ. Both leagues plan to bring the issue before the European Commission.

Youth Corpers posted to Daura, Pays Buhari Sallah Visit in his home town today,

in his reaction President Buhari said
‘One of the Sallah traditions I look forward to the most is the visit by Youth Corpers posted to Daura. I think the NYSC is one of the best things that has happened to Nigeria, because of the opportunity it gives young Nigerians to see and know different parts of the country.

Many of the Corps members posted to Daura are from southern Nigeria, and have never lived in or experienced this part of the country. For them to be brought to the desert or near the Sahel region is a difficult thing, but I have no doubt it will make a positive impact on Nigeria.

I welcomed them to my ancient town of Daura, and asked them to enjoy their service year, and the hospitality of the people. Regardless of where they’re from, Daura is also their home, and I hope that in the years to come they will look back to this time with fond memories.’

Young man killed wife after seeing her strangle daughter

The father of two girls whose bodies were found submerged in oil told police he killed his wife after seeing her strangling one of their children on a baby monitor.

Christopher Watts – accused of murdering both daughters and his wife – claimed in an interview that his pregnant partner had killed the children after learning that he wanted a divorce.

Investigators later discovered Watts was “actively involved in an affair with a co-worker,” which he had denied during an earlier interview.

Watts told police that after discussing the separation with his wife, he walked downstairs before returning to his bedroom to witness Shanann Watts, 34, killing three-year-old Celeste on the baby monitor.

Christopher Watts, 33, is accused of murdering his wife and young daughters
He told officers he strangled her to death during a fit of rage at their home in Denver, Colorado, and claimed the other girl, four-year-old Bella, had already been killed.

The details about his alleged confession to police were revealed in court documents.

Before being arrested and charged, Watts, 33, had allowed investigators into the property last Monday so they could help find his family after friends of his wife reported her missing.

The following day – with the whereabouts of Shanaan, Celeste and Bella still unknown – detectives ramped up their investigation with the aid of the FBI – and Watts made several emotional appeals in interviews with local TV stations.

But he agreed to “tell the truth” to officers last Wednesday, and admitted he had loaded their bodies into the back seat of his truck and driven to an oil and natural gas company he worked for.

His wife was buried there and the girls were submerged in crude oil, with their remains found by police on Thursday after using a drone to search areas identified by Watts.

The land owner – Anadarko, one of the largest oil and gas drillers in Colorado – has fired Watts, who is preparing to make his second appearance in court over the deaths.

He faces three first-degree murder charges, two counts of murdering a child under 12, one count of unlawful termination of a pregnancy and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body.

The case has continued to leave friends and family stunned, with Mrs Watts having written upbeat social media posts about her daughters, pregnancy and love for her husband not long before she died.

She had only recently revealed she was pregnant with a son the couple had hoped to name Niko.

Family friend Ashley Bell said he did not understand why Watts killed his family, describing him as a loving father and his wife as “pretty happy” at the time of her death.

The case has also focused attention on the lack of a law in Colorado allowing homicide charges in the violent deaths of foetuses, which is the case in 12 other states.
