People of Jenkwe development area of Obi local government council of Nasarawa state has kicked against the sitting of a new heavy-duty park in Duduguru community of the locality as proposed by the state government.
In their separate reactions to the proposed sight on a phone-in programme on radio Nigeria Precious FM Lafia ‘say it well’, some callers from Jenkwe community called on the state government to rescind its decision for the interest of peace.
One of the callers, Lazarus Ezekiel alleged that the move was a calculated attempt to introduce some unwholesome practices that were against the culture and tradition of the Migili extraction as according to him the community would eventually be taken over by foreigners.
Ezekiel who vowed that the youths of Migili nation would resist any further attempt by government to trample on the rights of its citizen called on Governor Al-Makura to fulfill his campaign promises to the people of Migili nation.
“Instead of the governor to build schools, create chiefdoms for our people as promised by the governor during his campaigns, government has resorted in providing of us with a Motor Park where all kinds of criminal activities and prostitution could be exhibited thereby increasing the risk of HIV/AIDS infection. This is against our culture”
Reacting to the development in an interview with our correspondent, Agube Moses Ogidis who is a one-time deputy chairman of Obi local government council of the state noted that although he was not against the development initiatives of the state government, the motor park project was of no economic importance to the people of the community.
“I would have preferred the sitting of hospitals, schools, good roads, water and creation of chiefdoms than a heavy-duty park” He posited.
He pointed out that experience has shown that such parks had introduced crimes and social vices like arm robbery, communal crisis among others, stressing that the proposed site was an accident prone area.
Governor Al-Makura had directed the state commissioners of Lands and Survey, Sonny Agassi and that of Works Housing and Transport to ensure the immediate commencement of work on the proposed site located at Duduguru junction along Lafia-Makurdi high way.
