Abused women urged to speak up

Wife of the Kogi State deputy governor, Tokunbo Awoniyi has appealed to women in the country to always speak out whenever they are abused.

Mrs. Awoniyi, who made the call in her Christmas message to women of Kogi State, lamented the unending cases of violence against women in the country.

While describing Christmas as a “time of peace, love and compassion”, the deputy governor’s wife urged women to take their rightful place in building a united family, saying a society with well knitted families would end up having a better nation.

She therefore called for stiffer penalties for persons involved in violent activities against women, advising the women not to remain silent whenever their rights are infringed upon.

Mrs. Awoniyi called on Nigerians to share love through giving to the less privileged and the vulnerable in the society in this season of Christmas.

She commended the efforts of wife of the Kogi State governor, Hajia Halimat Wada for empowering women in the state, urging them to embrace the principle of self reliance as a key to improving their financial and social standing.
