The Nigeria Football Federation has been called upon to provide all the necessary support to the Super Eagles in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) that is expected to commence this weekend in far away South Africa to excel.
The call was contained in a communique issued by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Bauchi State chapter t the end of its congress meeting held in Bauchi which was attended by three national officers where the association urged NFF to provide support to the national team just as they did in the last African Nations cup.
SWAN applauded the decision of the Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi for extending invitation to the members of the victorious U-17 world cup under Coach Manu Garba to the CHAN camp ahead of the South African championship.
The congress further commended the NFF for initiating the construction of FIFA Goal project in three states of the federation including Bauchi state and urged the NFF to ensure the completion of such project which will be for the betterment of youth in the country.
The congress lamented over the relegation of the state owned football team the Wikki Tourits from the Premier League to the nationwide league and called for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to regain their image in the football arena.
SWAN stressed the need for sports administrators and athletes in the state to improve their performance to reciprocate the state government’s huge investment in sports, saying that the present performance of the state in sports circle is below average.
The congress commended the out gone leadership of SWAN in the state under the chairmanship of Umar Sa’idu for the stability and for carrying its members along. The association called on the new leadership in the state to emulate their predecessor’s leadership style that led to numerous achievements during its tenure and called on state government to provide a bus to the association to boost its activities.
