US urges FG to investigate murders, abductions in Borno State

The U.S. Government on Friday urged the Federal Government to urgently embark on the investigation of the Feb. 11 attack on the Konduga community in Borno State.

In a statement issued by its Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria, the US Government expressed dissatisfaction at the killing of civilians and the abduction of young females from schools.

“The U.S. condemns in the strongest terms the brutal attack on the town of Konduga, Borno State, on Feb. 11.

“The U.S. offers its sincere sympathy to the families of scores of murdered civilians and abducted students.

“We are deeply concerned for the welfare of the young women currently being held against their will.

“We, therefore, urge the government of Nigeria to investigate this attack, ensure all persons abducted are safely returned to their families, and bring the perpetrators to justice, as soon as possible,’’ it said.

The statement expressed the commitment of the US to supporting northern Nigeria in fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.
