Boko Haram: Again, Gov Shettima visits Jonathan

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State was in the State House on Wednesday again to brief President Goodluck Jonathan on the latest attack in Bama which occurred in the wee hours of the day.

The governor who was also in the villa on Monday after about hundred people were killed in Izghe village at the weekend had told journalists that the army was less armed and motivated than the Boko Haram sect.

The Presidency had replied him on Tuesday through the Presidential Adviser on Public Affairs, Dr DoyinOkupe who noted that the governor was wrong to have claimed that the sect was more armed than the Nigerian Army.

The governor who met the President for about one hour on Wednesday declined to answer questions on the war of words between him and Okupe.

He said: “I do not want to comment. He is our President and I am here to update him on the goings on in Bama and I do not want to make additional comments.

Asked to explain his mission in the villa for the second time in 48 hours, Shettimasaid “Do I need your consent to come and see my President? He is the President of Nigeria and I need to update him adequately on the goings-on in the state.”

On the latest attack on Bama which occurred around 4am on Wednesday, the governor said: “There was an attack on Bama. We are yet to get the actual number of casualties but I was told they have inflicted a lot of damage on the town, otherwise the military men are doing their best.”
