Officers and Ratings of the Nigerian Navy have been charged to allow their children decide the career choice they wish to pursue rather than having it forced on them by parents in the interest of the country and humanity.

The charge was made by Lt. Commander Miqdad Gidado, the Chief Imam, Nigerian Navy Ship QUORRA, Apapa, during a special prayer session to mark the service 57 anniversary, tagged “The Pride of Professionalism.”

He said, “In our society today, professions are chosen not due to innate ability to be the best of what one wants to be, but as a result of economic expediency.

“That is why most parents would rather force their children to choose a career than allow them to be the best of what they can be,” Gidado said.

He stated that the pride of any profession was to add value to life in whatever capacity and whether it was appreciated or not.

According to him, the paradox in our society was giving pre-eminence to certain professions at the expense of others, adding that, “What makes a proud professional is the quality of his service delivery and not accolade.”

He, therefore, called on officers and ratings to redouble their efforts by giving their best to the Nigerian Navy in particular and the humanity in general.
