Tragedy struck on Monday in Ewekoro area of Ogun State when an unidentified personnel of the Ogun State Vehicle Inspection Office, VIO, was crushed to death while on inspection duty.
About two other officers were also said to be on the danger list in a hospital.
The crash, which happened in the early hours of yesterday, reportedly happened when a DAF truck marked LAGOS, KRD 237 XK rammed into a stationary Toyota Matrix car with registration number LAGOS FKJ 991 AV.
An eye witness told Nigerian Pilot at the scene of the accident that a team of VIO officials from Sango Ota was busy carrying out their normal duty right in front of LAFARGE cement company in Ewekoro when the crash occurred.
A cement burdened DAF truck which break, according report, appeared to have failed, overtook other vehicles before it finally hit the Toyota Matrix that eventually forced the stationary 10-ton truck to run on the three officials, leading to the immediate demise of one while another one identified as Jamiu, who was bearing the spikes, was reported to have suffered critical injury.
When contacted, the Itori Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, FataiBakare who confirmed the incident, told our correspondent that six people, all males, were involved in the crash.
Bakare, who attributed the cause of the accident to break failure, also stated that corpse of the dead VIO personnel had been deposited at the Itori General Hospital while the injured victim was receiving treatment at the same hospital.
