Kwara goes tough on posters, sign-post placement

Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency, KWASSA, yesterday warned political, religious and other groups existing in the state against violating the provision of law guiding its conduct.

KWASSA added that “anyone who violates any of its provisions or does anything in order to stultify the application of the law or continue to be in breach of the law by displaying or permitting the display of unauthorised outdoor structures shall be guilty of an offence and liable to punishment.”

This was revealed in a joint press briefing organised by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state and the KWASSA general manager, Barrister KamaldeenAjibade and Alhaji Ahmed Olufadi respectively.

According to them, “It has come to the attention of the state government that across the state there are many outdoor structures of advertisement and signs, inclusive of political outdoor advertisement and signs without compliance with the provisions of the extant law on same.

“The state government has however deemed it necessary to address this press briefing in order to sensitize the populace with regard to the mount of outdoor structures for signage and advertisement across the nooks and crannies of the state.”

The duo of Ajibade and Olufadi who enumerated some of the permissible outdoor structures as regulated by the agency, said “any corporate entity that owns outdoor structures must of necessity register same with the agency. The law empowers the agency to enter into and upon any property or premises for the purpose of carrying out inspection necessary for the proper administration of law.”

The agency however stressed that the briefing was in addition with the numerous advocacy it had embarked on for public awareness adding terms of imprisonment or fine awaits violators of the law.
