As the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents in the Northern part of the country is being reasonably brought under control by the Jonathan-led administration, the Igbo Nationality Right Assembly, has pleaded with the Federal Government to adequately compensate all victims of the senseless bombings, which have claimed scores of lives.
Chief Sam Okey Nwosu, national convener of the group, made the plea at the close of the assembly’s summit in Lagos, calling all Igbos both at home and in the diaspora to support the plea for compensation for the victims of the insurgents in the name of equity, fairness and justice, noting that Igbos are the major victims of the senseless attacks by the fanatical religious group.
He disclosed that efforts are being made to compile list of all victims of Igbo extraction to ascertain the number of victims and what they lost during the period.
“We are already compiling list of all victims of Igbo extraction, our structure is spread around not only Nigeria but around the globe. While it will be wrong to say only Igbos are victims of the Boko Haram campaign, it is an indisputable fact that Igbos constitute more than 80 per cent of the victims of the Boko Haram insurgent,” he said.
He said the unity of purpose with which Igbos will fight for the compensation for their unfortunate kinsmen will indicate how prepared Igbos are to fight their marginalisation in the scheme of things and have a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction.
