Commercial activities are gradually grinding to a halt in Lagos as a result of persistent fuel shortage in the metropolitan city for the third day running even as many commuters are left stranded at various bus stops.
Long queues of vehicles are also noticeable at some filling stations, thereby causing traffic jam on the roads.
Many stranded commuters told Nigerian Pilot that they spent hours at IyanaIpaja bus stop. They also complained of the hardship in trying to get to work but to no avail as most of the commercial vehicles refused plying the roads.
Road side hawkers sold 50-litre of petrol for between N7,000 and N8,000 thereby taking undue advantage of the shortage of the product.
Mr. Innocent Uwah, who said he stood for more than three hours without transport, feels something should be done to curtail the looming fuel crisis.
“The commercial drivers are taking advantage of the helpless commuters and I feel it is part of the greed pervading our country, as they are taking the fuel shortage as an excuse to charge the poor commuters more”.
