Gov. Yero signs Appropriation Act

Gov. Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State on Thursday signed into law, the 2014 Appropriation Act, allowing the administration to spend over N200.9 billion during the year.

The governor’s assent came few hours after the State House of Assembly had passed the budget with an additional N2.2 billion above what was earlier presented to it.

He pledged to implement the budget to the fullest, and challenged the legislators to carry out their oversight functions without fear or favour so as keep the administration on its toes.

Yero disclosed that a retreat would be held soon between the executive and the legislature to fine tune areas of cooperation and map out ways to ensure 100 per cent implementation of the budget.

NAN reports that the Assembly had earlier adopted the report of its Committee on Appropriation, allowing the government to spend N69.6 billion on recurrent services and N131.3 billion for capital expenditure this year.

NAN recalls that Yero had on Dec. 31, 2013 proposed to spend over N198.6 billion as total budget for the state.

The Speaker, Alhaji Usman Tahir pledged the support of the legislators to ensure proper implementation of the budget.

He urged the members to monitor Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), particularly the revenue generating ones, to ensure efficiency in their duties.

The speaker further called on the people to cooperate with the government and continue to live in peace for better development.
