The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps says it has handed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, over 5,500 litres of petrol it recovered from suspected vandals.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Spokesman for the Lagos State Command of the corps, Mr Chibuzo Mefor.
The statement was copied to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, has handed over 22 drums of 250 litres each of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
“The petroleum product was recovered from suspected oil vandals who were intercepted by the officers of the corps on the high sea in Badagry on Feb. 21, 2014.
“Our investigation revealed that the product was siphoned from Escravos, Apapa and FESTAC in Lagos for onward movement to neighbouring countries of Benin Republic and Togo,’’ it said.
The corps appealed to members of the public to give useful information on activities of oil vandals in their environment.
It said that activities of vandals and smugglers would not be tolerated.
It urged collaboration among security agencies in ensuring safety of lives and property.
