The General Overseer of Intercessors Bible Mission, Calabar, ArchBishop Archibong Archibong, has urged delegates to the National Conference to resolve the issue of insecurity and insurgency in the country.

Archibong told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Calabar that insecurity should be one of the paramount issues to be discussed at the conference.

He said: “As far as I am concerned, there are lots of issues that need to be addressed. Number one is the issue of security. It is very paramount to the discussion.

“How can we handle this issue of security, issues of tribal and religious sentiment, so this issue is very important in

the mix of other issues to be discussed.’’

He said that there was need for the delegates to deliberate on the way forward for peace and security in Nigeria.

The clergy also said that the states needed to control the revenue from their resources, adding that giving states economic autonomy would ease the tension at the centre.

“There is too much centralisation of power at the centre. The states should be empowered to do more.

“Now everybody is running to Abuja and if we continue that way, you find out that the issue of true federalism will

be very important to be discussed, ‘’ he said.

He commended the president for taking the initiative and seeing it to fruition, saying that `it is very necessary

and timely’’.

“We congratulate the president for taking a bold step to bring this conference to fruition,’’ Archibong said.
