The crisis that has engulfed the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State for sometimes now is far from over, as some members of the party in the state have urged its national leadership to quickly resolve the crisis in the state chapter so that it does not escalate.
In a letter to the party national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, they accused the faction led by Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, of activities capable of destroying the party in the state.
The letter was signed by Chief Noah Adesoji, Olalekan Obolo and Yemisi Aladesaye, former state chairmen of the defunct ACN, the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, and the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, respectively.
They said the faction met in Akure and created committees in respect of the Ilaje/ Eseodo bye election without involving other groups in the party.
The letter read: “Our attention has been drawn to a renewed attempt by a few elements within our great party led by Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu to further aggravate the crisis within this state chapter via a meeting convened by his group which held on Saturday 15th of May, 2014.
“This meeting instigated by Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu was a violation of the terms of understanding reached at Iyin-Ekiti, where Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Chief Pius Akinyelure presided several weeks ago and it was agreed that no group, on its own, should call any meetings or make any further statements on behalf of the party until all outstanding issues relating to the present crisis in the party are fully resolved.
“However, in its characteristic manner of seeking to create confusion and attempting to foist its minority will on the majority, this group comprising of about seven people, not only met on Saturday in Akure but went ahead to create illegal committees in respect of the impending Ilaje/ Eseodo bye election.”
Describing the group’s action as “provocative and ill-motivated,” they urged the national leadership of the party to call Akeredolu to order.
The aggrieved members warned that counter reactions were likely to take place if immediate actions were not taken, adding that the development would only escalate the current crisis and diminish the goodwill of APC in Ondo State.
They said the party may not win the Ilaje/Ese-Odo bye-election if funds meant for the poll were released to any faction without amicably resolving issues that were the source of the crisis in the party.
