The forthcoming local government election in Kano State has become a subject of controversy leading to series of complaints of injustice, unfair treatment leveled against the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the election into local councils slated to hold in May this year, may suffer manipulation as findings revealed that the state governor, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has mapped out plans to allocate the seats among his loyalists.
There are fears that if he succeeds in the plan to rig the seats in favour of his loyalists, the resultant effect would be detrimental to ambitions of other members of the party who belong to the three defunct parties that merged to form the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The three defunct parties are the ANPP, the Congress for Progressive Change CPC, the All Congress of Nigeria, ACN whose members did not follow ex-governor Ibrahim Shekarau to the PDP except perhaps a handful of his loyalists.
However, as the complaints became obvious, the governor was said to have rescinded his decision when he asked stakeholders and party caucuses at ward levels to hold consensus meetings to determine who would contest what at the forthcoming council elections.
Meanwhile, findings have revealed that there was success recorded in the emergence of candidates of both chairmanship and councillorship by consensus in almost all the local government areas but Kabo, Gwarzo and Municipal where the consensus was stalemated.
