Director of Joval Processors, Mr Sanni Ganiyu, has appealed to Oyo State Government to assist cassava processors with equipment for the production of cassava flour.
Ganiyu said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN in Lagos on Friday that the government’s assistance would go a long way in encouraging the production of other cassava products, such as chips.
“The Federal Government is encouraging the production of high quality cassava flour to produce bread and we cannot achieve that without the necessary machinery and equipment which are quite expensive for processors.
“So, we are calling on the state government to come to our aid by supporting us to procure these machinery and equipment on loan to enable us to meet the demand for high quality cassava flour, “ Ganiyu said.
He said that the call became necessary because farmers found it difficult to access loans from financial institutions.
“We are finding it difficult to access loans from banks and the prices of these machinery are expensive. The interest rate on loans are too much and will not make the business profitable, “ the director said.
Ganiyu said that access to credit constituted a major challenge to the production of high quality cassava flour.
“Farmers produce cassava in large quantity here in Oyo State but they do manual processing which does not enhance the quality of the products.
“Since we do not have the processing technologies, we find it difficult to meet the international quality for cassava chips and flour,” he said. NAN
