About 12,500 residency cards, popularly known as ‘Kaadi Igbeayo’, are ready for distribution to pregnant women in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, who made this known during the distribution of the cards at Arakale Comprehensive Health Centre, Akure said with the card, the state government could effectively plan well for the citizenry.
Adeyanju said it was also to checkmate the 30 per cent that had been taking advantage and benefiting from the free maternal and child health care system in the state.
“It is important we do this to be able to checkmate the 30 per cent that have been taking advantage of our facilities and benefitting from our free maternal and child health care.
“Residency means it could be any indigene, meaning that we are not trying to cut off people from other states living in our state, but for all people resident in the state,” he stated
Speaking on the importance of card, Adeyanju posited that the card would contain the data, bio-data, genotype, blood group and all other medical history of the pregnant women.
Adeyanju disclosed that phones would soon be distributed to pregnant women in the state, but that only those who have the card could access the phones.
Chairman of Ondo State Civil Data Centre, Mr Tunde Yadeka, said, henceforth, the card would be used to know the exact data of the women in the state, so as to ascertain the number of women of child-bearing age and how to plan ahead for them.
