Former Military Administrator of Lagos State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Adamawa State , Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa, yesterday in Yola, dumped the opposition party for the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
He also announced his support for President Goodluck Jonathan if he decides to run in the 2015 presidential race.
Marwa, who announced his formal defection to the PDP, linked his action to irreconcilable differences with the APC leaders in Adamawa State.
His defection, which came a week to APC congress, has been described as major blow to the party in the state. However, some members of Marwa’s former Congress for Progressive Change, CPC bloc within the APC said “We remain APC members; we will not join him on his new move.”
Disaffection in the state chapter of the APC has continued to escalate, which is why commentators say, “made the former Action Congress of Nigeria, CAN governorship candidate, Markus Natina Gundiri, to defect last
month to the PDP.
At a stakeholders’ meeting attended by Marwa’s supporters at Lelewal Motel in Yola, it was unanimously agreed that, “in view of the injustice entrenched in Adamawa State chapter of APC, we have no option other than to dump the APC and pitch our tent with the flourishing PDP.”
Marwa said he could not live in a party that tramples on people’s rights because in APC’s fold, injustice had become the order.
He furthered, “as part of the design by Nyako to muscle the party, he ensured that by hook or crook, the party’s registration exercise was hijacked by his loyalists denying ACN and CPC blocs any chance of getting involved in the exercise.
“In nine Local Government Areas, report has it that the registration materials were forcefully confiscated by Nyako’s group at the detriment of other members of the legacy parties” he alleged.
He added that all efforts to sit with governor Nyako to resolve the anomaly proved abortive as Nyako obstinately refused to reason with him just as he faulted the appointment of the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Kobis Ari Thimnu as the Interim State Chairman, saying that the move was to marginalize other stakeholders.
Marwa added that he is making serious consultation with the PDP stakeholders in the state to ensure that his supporters are fully integrated and to avoid the mistakes of the past.
