A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ondo State, Hon Bola Ilori has declared that the party would not impose candidates in the forthcoming congresses of the party .
Ilori stated this at a rally held by the members of the party in Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency of the state.
According to him, the party had made all arrangements for the successful conduct of the congresses which will hold at the ward, local governments and the state, saying that they were only waiting for the guidelines of the important exercise.
On the motive of the rally, the APC chieftain explained that the rally was held to appreciate the people of his federal constituency for their massive turnout during the membership registration, which ended recently and also to celebrate the birthday of the leader of the party and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who clocked 62.
He added that the people’s turn out during the registration was impressive even when they were not mobilised, adding that the figure recorded in Ondo West was the second largest after that of Owo local government.
Recalling the last registration exercise of members of the party, Ilori said he was surprised that the materials sent to the federal constituency was exhausted within two days and that they had to make request for more, which were later sent by the national secretariat.
He however pointed out that although there would be no imposition of officers during the forthcoming congresses yet the party would not oppose consensus arrangement.
During the rally, thousands of members of the ruling Labour Party, LP and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP defected to APC.
While welcoming the defectors, Ilori assured them that there would be no discrimination against any member of the party urging them to continue to work to ensure that the party takes control of the state.
