For flouting the directive of compulsory referral of all pregnant women by the Ondo State Government to government health facilities for safe delivery, a Mission Birth Attendant, Mrs Victoria Paul, is now cooling her heels in police net.

Mrs Paul  was arrested  by police for  causing the death  of a pregnant woman, Lola Fakuajo, at her  mission home, Apostolic  Church, Popoola  Street , Street, Stadium road, Akure.

The 28-year-old Lola Fakuajo was being attended to by Paul  before  she reportedly  ruptured her womb and was rushed  to Mother  and Child  Hospital, Akure, where  she reportedly gave up the ghost .

Lola reportedly  lost her  life before doctors could attend to her.

On hearing that Lola Fakuajo had died, Victoria took to her heels and it took government officials effort to nab her in the house she reportedly hid herself under the bed.

Mrs Victoria, after being arrested admitted knowing that the state government had warned them not to deliver pregnant women.

The late woman husband ,Mr Sunday Fakuajo said  he was not at home  when his wife was taken to the Mission Home until evening when he was called and saw his wife in a sorry  state, he then rush her to the Mother and Child Hospital  where she gave up the ghost.

The Chief Medical Director, Mother and Child Hospital Akure, Dr Adesina Akintan said the late patient was brought  very late in a bad condition which led to  her death.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr  Dayo  Adeyanju said  the state government  would explore all means to drive its infant  and Maternal Campaign to a success and to ensure that pregnancy is no longer a death  sentence in the state.

Adeyanju stated that the state government  will leave no  stone unturned to ensure that pregnant women give birth  where skilled birth  attendants will attend to them.

He said, government will use stick and carrot approach in driving the ‘Agbebiye’’ initiative to success.

Adeyanju therefore thanked  the Abiye Vanguards and Traditional  Birth Attendant for their support  towards maternal death reduction in the  state.

The special Assistance  to  Governor Mimiko  on Maternal Death Reduction, Mrs  Funmilola  Oluwadare decried the habit where some people arrogantly flout government’s  directives.
