Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM in Osun State says it will not field a candidate for the August 9 governorship election in the state. The state Chairman of PDM, Alhaji Bakare Akomola, disclosed this on Thursday.
Nigerian Pilot reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had fixed August 9 for the governorship election in the state.
Akomola said it would be difficult for the party to have a desired credible candidate for the election because it was just registered by INEC.
He said: “We are not fielding candidate for the August 9 governorship election in the state. PDM was registered last year August and we do not want to disintegrate our structure. And from the look of things, it is difficult to find a credible candidate for the election and we don’t just want to field anybody for the election.
“It is not that people are not approaching us as a party but we do not just want to play the game of participation.”
He, however, said the National Secretariat of the party would determine which of the political parties its members would support during the election.
Akomola said a number of personalities from other political parties have started approaching PDM for support.
“The directive of the national secretariat will determine which of the political parties to support during the election,” he said.
Akomola, however, said that PDM would participate in the 2015 general elections.
