Five of
the suspected members of the Boko Haram sect detained over the April 14, 2014 multiple bomb explosions in Nyanya Motor Park, Abuja, yesterday narrated how they launched the attack.

The Federal Government confirmed that 75 persons were killed and 175 others injured in the blasts.

The State Security Services, SSS, which paraded the suspects before journalists yesterday in Abuja, said that two of the masterminds of the attack were on the run and announced N25million reward for anyone who could provide information leading to their arrest.

Those  paraded by the security agents were Ahmad Rufai Abubakar, aka Abu Ibrahim Maiturare, Mohammadu Sani Ishaq, Ahmed Yusuf, Yua Saidu, alias Kotar Rama, and Anas Isah. The suspects on the run are Rufai Abubakar (aka Dr. Rufai Tsiga) and Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, a United Kingdom-born Nigerian from Benue State, ex-soldier with service number SVC 95/104.

Sani, 30, who narrated how the plan was hatched and executed, was arrested on April 24, 2014 at Utako Village behind Julius Berger Yard in Abuja following the disclosure of Ahmad Rufai Abubakar, an Islamic cleric and a native of Balari Village, Ajingi Local Government Area of Kano Sate.

According to Sani, he was a sales boy in Tsiga’s patent medicine store at Utako known as “Kishi Clinic”, which also served as a base for Boko Haram covert activities in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

He hinted that two days before the Nyanya blast, Tsiga, his boss, informed him at 4pm after their prayers that there was a plan to bomb a facility in Abuja but did not inform him of the exact location.

Sani, who spoke in Hausa, said: “Tsiga later informed me that the bombs to be used for the blast were being coupled at the residence of one Adamu Yusuf, one of the suspects. A day before the Nyanya bombing, Tsiga and I drove the explosives laden car and parked it behind four buses inside the Nyanya bus park overnight, after which we left.

Before 7am the following morning (April 14), Tsiga went and detonated the explosives.”

Sani further revealed that two cars were wired for the attack.

“The one used for the April 14 incident was used for the retaliatory attack on the motor park by the Boko Haram whose member was mobbed and killed a week before the incident when he was intercepted with firearms at the Nyanya Motor Park”.

Ahmad, 43, who was arrested on April 22, 2014 at Gwantu, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State by a joint security team, is a native of Yarimawa, Kazaure LGA of Jigawa state.

He said: “We carried out the attack on Nyanya Motor Park to retaliate the killing of a sect member at the same park eight days earlier. Rufai Abubakar Tsiga (Boko Haram leader) sent me to buy him recharge cards of N800 after the bombing incident. Tsiga also told me that Boko Haram national leader (Abubakar Shekau) had directed that all members of the sect should relocate with their families to Gaaba (Boko Haram forest camp) in preparation for mass attacks against the Nigerian state.”

Another suspect, Yua, 28, who was arrested on April 29, 2014 at his village, Dandambo, Tsanyawa LGA of Kano State said before his arrest, he was an apprentice under Rufai Tsiga at his medicine store in Utako Village Market.

Although he denied membership of the sect, he claimed that his uncle (Tsiga) and Sani Ishaq, one of the suspects, attempted to enlist him several times.

Yua named the perpetrators of the blast as Tsiga, Ishaq and Ogwuche. “On April 13 at about 1100 hours, a day before the Nyanya bombing, Tsiga and Ishaq drove from Utako Village Market in a black coloured Honda Accord car and returned about 1500 hours.

Later that same day, they went out in the same car and did not return until the next day, April 14, 2014 about 1100 hours, after the Nyanya bombing incident. When Tsiga learnt of Sani Ishaq’s arrest, he (Tsiga) fled Utako to an unknown location and left his business in my care. Tsiga also sent a message to his wife, Hauwa’u on GSM No. 07067434122 directing her to pack her belongings and flee the area,” Yua said.

Adamu, 43, was arrested in Bauchi on May 5, 2014 and confessed that he is a member of the Boko Haram. He was a cleric at Finance Quarters Mosque, Wuye, Abuja. He said Tsiga confirmed to him that the bombs used for the Nyanya incident were coupled in a bush near the residence of Adamu Yusuf.

Adamu Yusuf however, claimed that even though he was a friend to Tsiga, he did not take part in the bombing incident. He claimed to be an apprentice under Tsiga along with Anas Isah.

“On the day of the Nyanya bomb blast, Tsiga called and told me that he heard of the bomb blast and that it was a job well done.”

Anas, 22, who was arrested on May 3, 2014 hails from Tsiga, Bakori LGA of Kaduna State. He was arrested at Ungwar Yan-Tagwaye Village, Faskari LGA, Katsina State.

Anas said he came to Abuja in 2011 and hawked yoghurt for one month before going back to Tsiga but returned to Abuja in 2012 and worked as a sales boy in the pharmacy located at Ruga near Wuye Market.

“In 2013, Tsiga invited me to join his clinic at Utako Village, where I worked for five months.”

Although Anas denied being involved in the incident, he identified Ishaq and Tsiga as members of the sect, especially as Tsiga had confided in him (Anas) about his membership of the sect.

Spokesman of the SSS, Ms. Maryln Ogar, who paraded the suspects, said Sani took part with Tsiga in positioning the explosive-laden vehicle that exploded at Nyanya.

“Rufai Abubakar Tsiga, alias Dr. Tsiga and Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche are currently at large, and are hereby declared wanted. The sum of N25million is hereby announced as reward for anybody with useful information on their whereabouts”, Ms. Ogar declared.

The SSS spokesperson revealed further that Ogwuche deserted the Nigerian Army in 2006. “He served in the intelligence unit of the Nigerian Army at Child Avenue, Arakan Barracks, Lagos between 2001 and 2005, and was posted to the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA in 2006, but instead of reporting at the NDA, Ogwuche deserted.”

Ms. Ogar said Ogwuche was arrested on November 12, 2011 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on his arrival from the UK, for suspected involvement in terrorism-related activities but was released on bail on October 15, 2012 to his father, Col. Agene Ogwuche (rtd) following intense pressure from human rights activists who alleged human rights violation.

The SSS said the five suspected insurgents were arrested in line with security forces’ commitment to bringing to book perpetrators of evil in the country.

Consequently, a thorough investigation was initiated which led to the arrest of the five suspects.

“Nigerian security forces shall not rest on their oars until every individual or group of persons involved in the Nyanya bombings are brought to book,” Ogar declared.
