SEWW Energy Inc, developer of micro grids that feature renewable energy and smart grid, has announced that it would accompany U.S. Department of Commerce secretary, Penny Pritzker, on a trade mission to Nigeria and Ghana.

SEWW Energy is one of the 20 businesses joining the trade mission which is set for May 18-23, with stops in Nigeria and Ghana to promote U.S. exports and expanding U.S. companies’ presence in Africa.

In a press statement by SEWW Energy, the charlotte based firm was selected based on their expertise to help West African countries develop and manage energy resources and systems, as well as build out micro and macro grid power generation projects and network infrastructure.

SEWW Energy president and CEO, Kevon R. Makell said, “We are truly honored to have been selected by Secretary Pritzker to participate in this timely Trade Mission.

“SEWW Energy’s diverse range of products are designed to provide safe, efficient, secure and reliable sources of electricity to those we serve. I am confident that our proven record of success in the energy sector will solidify our role in helping the Department of Commerce to achieve its goal of expansion in West Africa.”

Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker said, “The fast-growing economies in Africa are a high priority for the Obama Administration and the Department of Commerce.

“There is tremendous potential for U.S. companies to export to countries like Ghana and Nigeria, which have energy needs that our firms have the goods, services, and expertise to address. Expanding trade and investment is a critical tool for economic growth and job creation in the U.S., and trade missions like this one are one way to help grow U.S. exports.”

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce there are more than 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa who lack access to electricity with an estimated $300 billion in investments to achieve universal electricity access by 2030.
