Delta Police smash robbery, kidnap gang, recover N40m

A six-man robbery/kidnap gang operating between Asaba and Onitsha area has been smashed by police detectives working at the Divisional Police Station Asaba/Onitsha Head Bridge, Delta State.

The sum of N40million was recovered from the kidnap gang being proceeds made as ransom collected from kidnapped relations.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Lucky Uyabeme who confirmed the incident yesterday in Asaba, disclosed that the detectives acted on a tip-off after which they swung into action and nabbed one Emeka Patrick, Uchena Okara, Anthony Eleogoregwu, Chukwu Ebuka and Ezechukwu Elekwe around Agbogidi Park-toll gate, Asaba, where

they were preparing to take-off for an operation.

Uyabeme said that upon interrogation, the robbery/kidnap syndicate confessed to the crimes, adding that they had been working for some highly placed personalities across the state.

He listed the items recovered from the suspects to include N40million in two sack bags, 16 locally made guns and 23 battle axes, adding that the suspects are presently helping the police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the police patrol team in Asaba has arrested two car snatchers around the River-Niger Head Bridge.

ASP Uyabeme said that the suspects were arrested with a Toyota High Lander jeep with registration noumber AT 696 ASB that was earlier reported snatched at gun point around Okpanam Road.

Uyabeme said the suspects, Chinemere Moses and Danlami Kaldiri had been arrested and they confessed to the crimes, stressing that investigation on how they stole the car was ongoing.
