A 42-year-old driver and staff of one of the Delta state owned ministries, David Uwaleki is currently being interrogated by the police detectives attached to the ‘A’ Division police station Asaba, over official vehicles of the state government that was allegedly vandalised by unknown thieves.
It was learnt that the vehicle parked in an open space few meters away from the suspect’s house was allegedly vandalised by unknown thieves; a situation he reported to the police, which immediately swung into action for investigations.
Confirming the arrest of the driver, the Police Public relations Officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu disclosed that the suspect upon interrogation made conflicting statements adding that those in the know claimed the suspect carelessly abandoned the government official car in the open after he had allegedly taken two bottles of beer.
Nigerian Pilot Checks revealed that the vehicle, which is barely two weeks old, is the first of its kind given out to some top government functionaries by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan recently including the ministry, where the suspect presently works.
Sources close to the ‘A’ Division police station, said that there have been reported cases of vandalised vehicles by unknown thieves in recent times; a situation that has prompted several petitions to the police to come to the aid of car owners around Ogbesowe, Ogbeke and its environs.
Although the suspect has been reportedly granted bail, DSP Kalu said investigation into the incident was on going as no further arrest has been made.
