Executive Secretary of National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-formal Education, Alhaji Jibrin Y Paiko, has called for the collaborative efforts of the third tier of government, towards the realisation of ‘Education for All by 2015’, a cardinal point  of the Transformation Agenda of the federal government.

Paiko said even though the commission’s effort had increased the literacy level in the country from 56 per cent, in 2009, to 62 per cent now, concerted efforts were needed from the local government administrators, traditional rulers and nongovernmental organisations in gingering literacy level in the communities in the non-formal education sector.

He made this clarion call yesterday in Oji River, Enugu State, as part of his speech at the occasion of Adult Literacy Day and 2013/2014 scholarship and bursary award ceremony of Ikeoha Foundation, founded by the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.

He further urged the third tier administrators to ensure adequate budgetary allocation for the payment of minimum benchmark to the facilitators and ensure regular forum for community /local government dialogue for adequate community sensitisation, mobilisation and participation.
