A suspected human trafficker has been arrested in Jos by men of the Plateau State command of the Nigerian Police Force.

The key suspect, Naphtali Zabade of Dahwak Kuru, Jos, was apprehended at a motor park in Jos while allegedly attempting to transport six teenage girls from Jos to Rivers State.

Plateau State Police Commissioner, Chris Olakpe, while parading the suspect and the six teenage girls at the police command headquarters in Jos yesterday, said “the suspects were arrested at Silver Motor Park, Gadabiu Jos, while trying to escape with the girls to Rivers state.”

According to Olakpe, “On interrogation, the two suspects have confessed they got the girls from Mangor village in Bokkos local government of Plateau state, and the girls were been conveyed to Portharcourt where they will given menial jobs.

The main suspect, Naphtali Zabade denied being a trafficker and claimed that he works for a missionary centre in Port Harcourt and that the girls were less privileged girls that would be helped by the missionary centre to get a job.

The police commissioner described human trafficking as modern slavery through which human beings are being sold out as house helps and is becoming rampart in the country.

The police also paraded eight suspects allegedly arrested with various arms during the recent violent crisis in Bassa Local Government of Plateau State.

Olakpe said all the suspects would be charged to court immediately.
