The Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi , Dr Mathias Oyigeya, on Saturday urged journalists to imbibe the culture of physical exercise to ensure fitness.
Oyigeya gave the advice in Makurdi at the end of a physical fitness programme tagged “Journalists Walk For Health”.
The programme was organised by the Benue Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), to promote physical fitness among journalists.
Represented by Dr Okoh Onojah, Head of Orthopedics at the centre, Oyigeya said physical fitness was necessary for the optimal function of the body.
The medical expert therefore advised journalists to dedicate “at least 20 minutes” of their time for exercise every day to ensure their wellbeing.
Speaking earlier, the state Chairman of SWAN, Mr Emmanuel Uja, said the programme was packaged to educate members on the relevance of good health through regular exercise.
In his remarks, Chairman of Benue Council of the NUJ , Mr Kris Atsaka , commended SWAN for the initiative and urged the association to sustain it for the benefit of its members.(NAN)
