Bayero, symbol of peace, equity, says former aide

The late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero, has been described by a former aide as someone that cherished peace and equality during his reign.

Alhaji Wada Maimota, the late emir’s personal driver for over 30 years, told newsmen that “he considered all persons in the palace as his sons and daughters”.

“Whenever a child was born in my house, we would tell him and he was always the one to give them names.

“Whenever we were on the road, he always cautioned me to be patient at all times,” he said.

Maimota also said that the late emir was a father to all, including non- Muslims and showed  concern on all issues involving all his subjects.

Meanwhile, Gov. Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State said in Kaduna on Saturday that the death of the emir had heralded ‘the end of an era in the history of Kano Emirate and the traditional institution’.

In a statement, signed by his Director of Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ahmend Maiyaki, Yero said the late emir was a father loved by all.

The governor said his immense contributions towards growth and advancement in all spheres of human endeavours would be remembered for a long time.

Yero said the gestures and exemplary life of the late emir, transcended the borders of Kano, and even Nigeria.

“ We have indeed lost a rare leader, whose influence cuts across all divides and sections of the country and Africa,” he said.

Similarly, the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Bello Gwarzo, said that Bayero was a man that cherished the intellectual advancement of his people.

A statement by Gwarzo’s media aide, Ibrahim Garba, quoted him as saying that Bayero “was an easy going emir, who encouraged the worship of God”, he stated.

NAN recalls that the emir died on Friday, June 6, 2014, at the age of 84.(NAN)
