FG to build 227 fire stations

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said the federal government had entered into consultation with an American company to build 227 fire stations across the country.

This he said was part of measures being put in place by his administration to prevent and curb fire outbreaks in the country.

The president, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja while receiving an award conferred on him by a group, Fire Disaster Prevention and Safety Awareness Association of Nigeria.

According to him, his administration since inception has committed itself to restructuring the Federal Fire Service in order to discharge its mandate of preventing fire disaster and mitigating consequences of fire disaster.

“It is against this background that this government is consciously working with non-governmental organisations in ensuring that as much as possible we prevent fire disaster; where we cannot readily prevent fire disaster, we are taking deliberate steps to ensuring that we properly manage such disaster and ameliorate the consequences in respect of the lives of the people,” he added.
