Man executed for arson in Eastern China

A 27-year old man in east China’s Zhejiang Province was executed on Friday morning for an arson attack that killed eight people in early 2013, local authorities said.

Investigations found that Lin Binwei, an online store keeper in Wenling City, set fire to shoe boxes in the house of another online store owner surnamed Liu in the early hours of Feb. 23, 2013.

Lin admitted that he had personal disputes with Liu.

The fire killed eight people and injured another, causing property damage of around 600,000 yuan (96,060 U.S. dollars), according to investigators.

Lin was given death sentence and deprived of his political rights for life during his trial at Taizhou City Intermediate People’s Court on June 8, 2013.

The court also ordered him to compensate the economic losses of 16 plaintiffs worth 1.41 million yuan.
