Nasarawa perm sec in trouble over missing N3m

Permanent Secretary in the Nasarawa state ministry of Lands and Survey, Abigail Waya and some directors in the ministry have appeared before the State House of Assembly committee on Public Accounts to explain the alleged disappearance of over N3million meant for the ministry.

The said funds according to the Legislature could not be accounted for, by the ministry as contained in the 2012 report of the state Auditor-General. They were also to give account of an alleged payment voucher of N29million in the year under review.

Speaking through the Director of Finance of the ministry, Solomon Kasa, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Abigail Waya, explained that the alleged unaccounted funds was stolen by yet-to-be identified persons and that the matter was presently before a law court.

She argued that the issue of the unaccounted N3million had been existing even before her assumption of office, just as she presented some documents before the House committee relating to how the over N29million was expended.

Chairman of the committee, Honourable Francis Orogu, after receiving the relevant documents from the ministry, pointed out that his committee would work on the documents and make appropriate recommendations to the House.

Auditor-General of the state, Lamus Alhassan and his directors were also present during the appearance of the permanent secretary before the House committee on public accounts.
