Medical student emerges winner of Korean language contest

A medical student of Babcock University, Takon Ekude, has emerged winner of the first edition of Korea speech contest held in Abuja.
The Korea speech contest is organised by the Korean Cultural Centre as part of its effort to encourage and give opportunity to Nigerians, who are interested in learning the language and culture of Korea.
Declaring the contest open, Director of the centre, Kwon Yong Ik explained that the contest was introduced to motivate student’s interest in Korean language adding that the centre intends to grant scholarship to outstanding students in the future.
“From next year, KCC will push ahead with a plan of granting a scholarship programme to the best contestant sponsored by universities in the country,” he said.
Speaking to our correspondent, winner of the golden prize, Takon EKude, said she is motivated to learn languages because she does not like been around people and not understanding their tongue.
She said she currently speaks English, French, German, Korea and her Bekwara local dialect, adding that Arabic, Japanese were some of the languages she is willing to learn.
The contest was judged based on accuracy of pronunciation, appropriate subject, power of expression and creativity.
18 candidates entered for the contest from the basic and intermediate levels.
Highlight of the event was presentation of prizes and certificates.
