Ag CJ sets up 7-man panel
Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State yesterday absolved President Goodluck Jonathan of the moves by the State House of Assembly to impeach him saying that the Presidency was not in any way connected to the impeachment ploy.
Nyako said this shortly after arriving Yola after a two-week trip, insisting that from due investigation, he was satisfied that President Goodluck Jonathan was not even remotely connected to the impeachment move saying it was orchestrated by Adamawa politicians.
“Some senior citizens of Adamawa based in Abuja are responsible for the political impasse bedeviling the state stressing that there is no external influence in the plot for his removal by the presidency. The presidency is not planning a plot to remove me from office contrary to speculations,” he said.
According to him, “We know that Adamawa state is full of intellectuals, when issues arise we use different approaches to address it, that is the cause of the political differences we have but there’s no outside interference,” he said.
Nyako said, the political development in the state has made him to have sober reflection explaining that he has come to certain conclusions on all the issues raised saying that there is nothing serious in all the accusations.
“As I am coming back, I came with certain conclusions about all the issues raised. There is nothing too serious. Three months ago, the house itself has passed a verdict praising the administration as transparent and performing well and I don’t want them to lose that faith.
Nyako commended the people for their calm and steadfastness despite the fact that they were not paid salaries saying that he is working to ensure that EFCC de freezes the state accounts adding that he was working towards ensuring that he rallied round all Adamawa indigenes so that his differences with the lawmakers could be reconciled.
Meanwhile, Governor Nyako’s days at the Dougirei Government House Yola seems to be numbered as the acting Chief Judge went ahead to implement the resolution of the state House of Assembly, which ordered him to set up a 7-man investigation panel to commence investigation into allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy.
While setting up the investigation panel, the acting CJ, said he was acting based on the provision of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended which provided him the powers to set a seven-man committee to investigate allegations of misconduct as instituted by the Adamawa State House of Assembly against the governor and his deputy.
Registrar of the High Court, Abubakar Babayola, who made the announcement on behalf of the acting CJ said the names include: Buba Kaigama, who will serve as the chairman of the committee, while Mrs. Laraba Hassan, Saadu Lawan, Gapsiso Eston, Joshua Abu, Njida Kito, Eston Binano will serve as members.
