The Extraordinary General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, rose from a marathon meeting in Abuja, yesterday sacking the executive committee of the federation led by Alhaji Aminu Maigari.
The assembly also terminated with immediate effect the employment of all management staff of the NFF.
Chief Obinna Ogba, who read a seven-point communiqué to the media after the meeting at the conference hall of Bolingo Hotel and Towers, accused the Maigari administration of shortchanging grassroots football development by failing, “to regularly avail state football associations of annual grants, and also abuse of NFF Statutes in its constitution of the electoral committee, by altering the list of persons approved by the congress at the 2013 General Assembly in Warri, Delta State.
“The congress bemoaned the unfortunate incident of the international embarrassment caused the Nigerian nation at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, by failure of the Aminu Maigari-led NFF to fully and firmly resolve issues of finance with the Super Eagles ahead of the championship.”
Consequently, the Extraordinary General Assembly approved the appointment of new electoral and appeal committees.
The Electoral committee is composed of Jeriak Rowland (South South), Usman A Usman (North West), Emeka Asogwa (South East), Margaret Aku (North Central), Hassan Adamu (North East), Prof Ademola Abass (South West), Chris Essien (South South) and Larence Katken who will serve as secretary.
The Electoral Appeal Committee has the following as members: Effiong Oboho (South South), Waribere Sonari, Dr Isaac Akinloye, Thomas Awok, Simon Gyang and Queen Otarakpo.
The congress also endorsed the dissolution of the boards of the Nigeria National League, Nigeria Women League, and the Nigeria Nationwide League.
The vice chairmen are to take over the management of the leagues and report to the acting general secretary of the NFF which it also approved pending the appointment of a substantive General Secretary.
The Sports Minister, Dr Tammy Danagogo, alongside top directors at the National Sports Commission, attended the opening session of the congress.
Forty-one out of the 44 members from the 36 states of the federation attended the congress.
