A bag suspected to be bomb-laden was left by unknown persons at the Heritage House bus stop in Wuse zone 3 yesterday afternoon, which resulted in fear and panic among the people in the area.
Passers-by, who were scared after discovering the abandoned bag at the popular bus stop, deserted the bus stop for fear of explosion as nobody was ready to get close enough to identify its content.
Men of the Nigeria Customs Service, later alerted a policeman attached to Nigerian Pilot Newspaper, Corporal Stephen Ibrahim and Corporal Daniel Dan’azumi attached to Zenith Bank, who informed the Wuse Police station for necessary action.
On receiving the alert, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Wuse was said to have immediately contacted the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, bomb disposal unit, which came to check the content of the bag.
An eyewitness, who was present, told our correspondent that the police came with their van, and then, took away the object suspected to be a bomb, without disclosing the content of the bag to the people.
Efforts made by our reporter to speak with the bomb disposal unit of the Nigeria police proved abortive, as they hurriedly left the scene after carrying off the bag and its content.
