El-Zakzaky’s son, 3 others fear dead
It was pandemonium at the PZ area of Zaria, Kaduna State, yesterday, when members of the Shiite sect and the army clashed leaving the son of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, otherwise known as Shiite, Mahmud El-Zakzaky and three others dead.
Information revealed that the incidence occurred when members of the Shiite group were on a procession to celebrate this year’s Quds day and at the same time to condemn the military operation on Gaza by the Israeli forces, in Zaria.
According to an eyewitness, the procession passed through a military checkpoint close to the PZ roundabout in Zaria, and in the process there was a misunderstanding between the protesters and the soldiers leading to soldiers firing warning shots but this was said not to deter the protesters who were bent on carrying on with their protest.
Nigerian Pilot Sunday also gathered that in the process, a bullet hit Mahmud El-Zakzaky, who was among the leaders of the protest while Mahmud’s younger brother, Ahmad El-Zakzaky was one of the people arrested by the military.
When contacted the military authorities did not confirm the incidence, but a source close to the military said it was aware of the incidence and was studying the situation.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filling this report, there was confusion and commotion around PZ and more soldiers have been drafted to the area.
