WHEREABOUTS of former Gov of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako, still remains a subject of conjecture following discordant revelations that he is either in the holy land for Umrahh, lesser hajj or hiding somewhere in the country.
The concern for Nyako’s present location followed his removal from office about a fortnight ago.
He has since gone into hiding shortly after his impeachment on Tuesday 15 July 2014, fuelling speculation that he may be engaged in a hide and seeks game to avoid been arrested by security agencies.
While checks by this paper revealed that his fears may not be unconnected that he may be prosecuted over alleged financial recklessness as well as charges of treason, even the security agencies, some family members as well as former cabinet members cannot ascertain his real position.
According to sources, indications are rife that the Attorney General of the Federation may have prepared a six count charge of treasonable felony while the EFCC will also dock him over alleged graft, thus, forcing him into hiding.
Meanwhile efforts made by the Nigerian Pilot Sunday revealed that efforts by some of Nyako’s aides to reach him on the phone have proved abortive.
His family members and political associates said they still don’t know of his where about, in spite of repeated telephone calls and messages made to his phone. Each time I call or send an SMS, it bounces back, said one of his commissioner who spoke in the guise of anonymity
But investigation by this paper reinforces an unverified speculation that in the aftermath of his impeachment, he was secretly smuggled out of the country through Ghana to France.
However some of his close associate who do not want their names in print ,said that the Governor did not go into hiding as being speculated, but rather he followed due process before leaving, adding that the former Governor actually left the country through Abuja International Airport.
