As part of efforts to support peace building, the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, PMAN yesterday in Abuja pledged to use entertainment to mobilise support for internally displaced persons.
PMAN Governor, Mr. Collins Adeyemi stated this during a press briefing organised by PMAN in conjunction with Displaced Women and Children Foundation, DWCF.
Mr. Adeyemi proposed that having a concert with a national spread in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT where artistes can come and showcase their talent will go a long way to raise funds to get relief tickets for the thousands of displaced persons.
He explained that this collaboration is not out of place since the association has always been in support of humanitarian efforts.
“Being the voice of the people the association has always been at the forefront of sensitizing people and advocating for peace by singing with one voice. We have also assembled a group of artistes who are working on special tracks with a defined message of peace.”
In her remarks, Hip hop singer, Julietta Ofuyete said organizing a concert to raise funds for the victims is essential as this will provide the entertainment content to drive the relief mission.
“I am very passionate about women and children. I believe I can use my voice, performance to bring people together.”
The Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Mr. Salis Muhammad Abdulsallam said, there is need to come to the aid of the victims of crises in Nigeria by putting them under a sustainable rehabilitation programme.
