Benue State Police Command yesterday arrested the killer of Police Sergeant Bawa Ekoja attached to its ‘Operation Zenda’ unit.
The killer, an okada man-turned taxi driver was arrested with the gun he had snatched from the late Sergeant.
It would be recalled that the killer accosted the deceased police officer at about 6:30 am two weeks ago in an ash colour Toyota Camry and shot him at the back thrice on his way home after he had closed from night duty at Bem Hotel located at Ankpa Quarters in Makurdi, the state capital and took away his gun.
Nigerian Pilot Sunday gathered that since the policeman was killed, security has been beefed up within Makurdi town as the command has commenced stop-and-search exercise apparently to check the rising cases of criminal activities in the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ezeala, who confirmed the arrest said the command has recovered the gun from the suspected killer, while investigation into the matter had also commenced.
The killing of the mobile policeman came barely two weeks after Governor Gabriel Suswam raised the alarm over the upsurge in criminal activities in the state and urged the police to brace up to the challenge.
