No fewer than 8500 youths and women of Taraba state would be empowered by trainings for various skills by the federal government Subsidy Reinvestment Empowerment Programme, SURE-P.
Alhaji Abdulhadi Haruna Lau, the state Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Welfare, who disclosed this during the flag-off of the second phase of SURE-P implementation, informed that the first phase of the programme was successful as more than 10,000 youths were empowered.
Youths, according to him, were drawn from across the 16 local government areas of the state and Yangtu Special Development Area
would have their training in computer, fingerlings production, welding, vulcanising, paint making, tailoring, food processing, liquid detergent making and Shea butter production, among others.
The training programme which is to last for three months, according to the Commissioner would be held in three zones of the state Jalingo (Northern zone), Bali (Central zone) and Takum (Southern zone).
As to adequate preparations for the implementation of the programme, the Commissioner said an Implementation Committee was in place to ensure effective execution of the programme, informing further that a monitoring/evaluation team comprising of experts has equally been set up to monitor the programme.
