Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a former governorship aspirant, Delta state, yesterday, alleged that the controversial creation of New Polling Units by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was a pure conspiracy by the leadership of the commission against the South.

The PDP chieftain also accused Professor Atahiru Jega of attempting to cause more troubles in the country by creating the new polling units skewed to favour the North.

Onuesoke who made the allegation in Warri, Delta State, said the imbalance in the creation of the new polling booths which is tilted in favour of the North against the South could be part of a master plan to manipulate the 2015 elections.

According to him “the plot is to enable the North to continue to dominate the South in the post-Goodluck Jonathan era, which would deny the South the opportunity to produce the President of the country in the future.”

Onuesoke, who is the Country Director of Network for Good Governance, N4GG, queried the yardstick used by Jega to create the new polling units, giving the North 22,000 polling units as against the South 12,000 polling units calling for its cancellation.

“If 500 voters per unit is the yardstick, it would have inadvertently tilted the balance of over 20 million voters for the North against only 4 million voters for the South.  This is a sort of constitutionally institutionalise strategy to always produce the President from the North after the post-Jonathan era. This is not acceptable to Southern stakeholders in the political turfs.”
