Worried by the avalanche of kidnap cases pending at the Enugu State Police Command, the state Commissioner of Police,  Abubakar Adamu Mohammed has vowed to conclude investigations into them  with a view to ensure that the suspects are taken to  court.

Adamu Mohammed dropped this hint at the weekend while reacting to allegations that members of the state police command are deliberately delaying the prosecution of those alleged to be involved in the kidnap of a Lebanese, Mohammed Kanaan, a staff of Grey Line Construction Company involved in one of the construction of rural roads in Enugu State.

Mohammed Kanaan was kidnapped along  Udi/Ugwuoba Road on April 29, 2013. But the Anti Kidnap Unit of the Enugu State Police Command was able to rescue him on May 2, 2013. He stressed that the major suspect, Albert Chukwu, alias Agbaranze who was picked is still assisting the operatives in their investigations.

Buttressing the efforts of the state police command Anti Kidnap Squad in tracking down the crime in the state, the commissioner further pointed that the kidnap of Miss Fidelia Obetta who allegedly kidnapped on April 22, 2013, by Chibueze Areji, Ikowo Ekene,Eze Ikechukwu and Ezema Okechukwu and was later rescued unhurt, is also being investigated and would be concluded soon.

Likewise, the investigations into the alleged kidnap of Ijeoma Maduabuchi on April 20, 2013 who is believed to have been murdered by her abductors at Obinagu village, Ugwuoba community, in Oji River local Government Area of the state, will soon be concluded and the culprits charged to court.

He explained that seven persons had been tracked and arrested on that particular incidence, namely Sunday Nwangwu, Raymond Nwambe, Uzoamaka Ogadi (F), Ekene Eze alias MMachi; Chinonso Ikeanyi, Omah James and Nnaemeka Enyi, and  two locally made pistols recovered from them.

Adamu noted that his command had recorded successes in other areas such as the recent arrest and prosecution of three persons apprehended for school certificate racketeering and some suspects also involved in child trafficking business known as ‘baby factory.’

He, however, called on the members of the public, particularly good citizens of the state, to always partner with the police in the state through timely and useful information about crime and criminality in their domain in order to keep the state safe and secured, pointing out that crime prevention is everybody’s responsibility while also maintaining that crime prevention and detection as well as strict adherence to human rights tenets would be the cardinal objectives of his administration.
