Stakeholders in the education sector of Ebonyi yesterday commended efforts of states and Federal governments in checking the spread of the dreaded Ebola virus disease, EVD, in the country.
They made the commendation at a stakeholders meeting organised by the Ebonyi state ministry of Education in Abakaliki.
In his speech, the Ebonyi state commissioner for education Mr. Ndubuisi Chibueze-Agbo, said the meeting was to effectively sensitise stakeholders on the dreaded disease.
He disclosed at the gathering that both the state and the Federal governments had put measures in place to contain the spread of EVD in the country assuring that Nigerian government was doing everything to free the nation from the disease.
According to him, strict measures have being put in place to stem the tide of the spread and commended the federal ministry of health under Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu for rising up to the challenges.
“We commend the federal government’s efforts for its quick and timely response to the challenges posed by the EVD.
The commissioner said the sensitisation would provide the needed education to the stakeholders for prompt response in any event of suspected case of the disease in schools.
He said school children remained a highly vulnerable group in the spread of the disease saying “efforts must be made to provide adequate information to school administrators to equip them for the challenges.”
