The Obolo family of Ikoya in Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State has called on the state police Command to, as a matter of urgency, order thorough investigations into alleged rituals involving two police officers attached to the station in the town and some children of the family.
It was alleged that a female officer attached to the case, had in the evening of September 9,2014 around 7.00pm invited some children to her residence to celebrate what she called her birthday without the consent of the parents of the affected children.
“The lady, who did not offer them spoon to eat the rice she served along with meat of local chicken, reportedly ordered the children to rub their oil stained palms on the face and body of a man who reportedly sat on a local stool in the room .
The children were aged six and below, except for one aged 12,’’ a source said .
The family said it was this older boy, who refused to heed the order but ran out to inform elders.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the alarm so raised attracted an irate mob who allegedly assaulted the two law enforcement agents and the other man on whose body the children rubbed their oil-stained hands.
The family also demanded that the children, who took part in what they termed a weird ritual be liberated from any evil effects, as some of them are now seriously sick, an Obolo family source informed.
‘’It is also our humble request that the Commissioner of Police orders the concerned officer to cleanse the land immediately, as demanded by our tradition, ’’Hon Titus Kuye ,who spoke with Nigerian Pilot on behalf of the family said.
’’When the news got to the head of the family. Pa Alfred Kuye, he invited some of us to go to the scene and calm the situation.
It was a spontaneous action and it was dark so we could not know those responsible, he stated.
Meanwhile, the family lawyer, Barr. Omosola Ijose has forwarded a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, in respect of the development.
At the Okitipupa Divisional Police Station all efforts to reach the affected female police officer was not successful as it was revealed that they have been taken away by Divisional Police Officer, Ifeanyi Ohuruzor (CSP) since the incident occurred.
When the Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO of the Ondo State Command, Wole Ogodo (ASP) was contacted on phone, he said that the case was being investigated.
