Arogbo Kingdom commended for promoting Ijaw culture

People of Arogbo Kingdom in Ondo State have been commended for keeping and
observing the traditional and cultural practices of the Ijaw people.
Governor Seriake Dickson made the commendation when he visited the regent and Tarabiri of Arogbo Kingdom, His Highness, Chief Amos Sofiyea at his palace in Arogbo Town, Ondo State, during the 2014 edition of the annual Arogbo Day celebration.
The governor, who noted with dismay, the absence of a bridge linking Arogbo Town to the mainland community of Agadagba, offered to work with a committee of sons and daughters of the kingdom and other prominent personalities to liaise with relevant federal agencies in ensuring that the project is actualised, while efforts are equally made to present other developmental challenges of the area to the appropriate quarters for action.
He, however, expressed appreciation to the regent and the people of the kingdom for the warm reception and the traditional title of ‘Ibetaritobou’ which is to be formally conferred on him at a later date, and announced a donation N5 million to support the Arogbo Day celebration.
The Bayelsa State governor blamed various federal agencies for not doing enough to develop Ijaw communities across the Niger Delta, stressing that concerted efforts be made to change the trend and give the people a greater sense of belonging.
Earlier welcoming the governor, the regent, Chief Sofiyea expressed delight over the visit and pledged total support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
The special adviser to the president on Niger Delta and chairman of the presidential amnesty programme, Hon. Kingsley Kuku noted that Governor Dickson is regarded as the entire Ijaw people, even though they are spread across 6 Niger Delta states.
The Bayelsa State governor and members of his entourage were treated to a traditional boat display on arrival.
